The Zambia In the Wild tour combines three of Zambia’s premier parks, South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, and Kafue (Busanga) Parks. They are all very different, so it is a spectacular safari through Zambia. Due to camp closures, the package is available from May to October each year.
The lagoons and riverine woodland of the Luangwa, the escarpment and water experience of the Lower Zambezi, the miombo woodland and vast open plains of Kafue are contrasting and all host exceptional game. The camps are small, personal, and immaculately run. This is a spectacular safari through Zambia – remote areas, with dedicated guides and excellent game.
Zambia In the Wild Itinerary
The itinerary we have worked on is:
Tena Tena, South Luangwa for 4 nights,
Either Chula Island Camp or Kutali Camp (Classic Zambia Camps), Lower Zambezi for 3 nights
Either Musekese Camp or Ntemwa-Busanga Camp (Classic Zambia Camps), Kafue for 3 nights
The order of camps can be changed & different camp options are available for all budgets.
Day 1:
On arrival at Lusaka International Airport, you will be met by a representative who will have a board with your name on it and assist you with checking in for your flight to Mfuwe, South Luangwa. The flight is on average one hour. At Mfuwe International Airport, a guide from Robin Pope Safaris will meet you for a game drive transfer to Tena Tena.
Tena Tena is a remote, intimate camp which lies within the Nsefu Sector, which enjoys a stunning location on a bend of the Luangwa River. The Nsefu Sector is a phenomenal area of South Luangwa. Robin Pope Safaris owns the only two camps in this sector of the Park. On arrival, you will be shown to your tent and enjoy lunch. Under the shade of a huge Mahogany tree in the centre of the camp. Followed by a well-deserved siesta before the afternoon and evening game drive.
Day 2:
After breakfast around the campfire, your safari will continue with morning and evening game activities. Depending on the time of year, an all day picnic drive covering different habitats comes highly recommended and is an exceptional day’s safari.
Day 3-4:
A few more days to explore the Tena Tena area fully – a chance to drive or walk through the ebony groves. Or you may decide this is an ideal day, depending on the heat and time of year, to explore further afield. Possibly a day tour to Kawaza village for a cultural experience or Tribal Textiles to get some insight on the local industry, plus a chance to buy some souvenirs. It’s all entirely up to you and your interests. You can mix and match activities to maximize your experience in this game rich and remote area of the Luangwa.
Day 5:
In the morning, you fly to Lower Zambezi for your flight to Jeki in the Lower Zambezi National Park. You have a choice between Kutali Camp and Chula Island Camp. Both are run and operated by Classic Zambia Camps.
Kutali and Chula Island Camps are open from 1st May – 31st October. In 2026, they will open from 1st April.
Nestled amidst the enchanting landscapes of Kulefu Island, Kutali Camp embodies the essence of remoteness and tranquility. Situated within the captivating Winterthorn forest of the Zambezi valley, this camp exudes an aura of timeless elegance.
Chula Island Camp offers 5 luxurious tented accommodations in a serene bushcamp setting. Each tent boasts premium amenities and stunning views of the Zambezi River. The main area, nestled beneath Natal Mahogany trees, provides a perfect spot for dining, relaxation, and wildlife observation.
Day 6-7:
There are 3 full days to explore the Lower Zambezi. Both camps offer a rustic appeal of fly camping with a great focus on walking. Complemented by boating, canoeing, and game drives. This offers you a perfect mix of land and water based activities led by highly passionate and experienced safari guides.
Day 8 – 10:
After breakfast and farewells, a drive through the park to the airstrip to meet the plane taking you to the Kafue National Park. Landing at the Lufupa Airstrip, you will be transferred to your choice between Ntemwa-Busanga Camp and Musekese Camp.
Musekese Camp is nestled in the heart of Kafue National Park, in the wildlife rich Busanga Plains. It offers an intimate safari experience, providing a personalized adventure tailored to your pace and interests. Enjoy the perfect balance of comfort and sustainability in the heart of Kafue National Park. It is open from 1st May to 30th November.
Ntemwa-Busanga Camp is the sister camp to Musekese Camp, perfectly situated in the southern sector of the Busanga Plains. Offering an exceptional opportunity for wildlife photography, especially of the iconic sable and roan antelopes, which thrive in this region. Full day game drives allow for exploration of the vast plains and visits to other renowned destinations within the area. It is open from 1st June to 15th November.
The Busanga Plains are renowned for their high concentration of predators. Including the famous ‘swamp lions,’ and offers excellent opportunities to spot cheetahs and leopards. Birding is world class, with diverse habitats attracting large numbers of water birds during the dry season. Creating ideal conditions for avid photographers to capture stunning wildlife moments.
Day 11:
After breakfast, enjoy a morning activity, time permitting. You will be transferred to Lufupa airstrip for your flight to Lusaka to connect onto your onward flight.
