The beautifully converted trains carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 high quality suites. They are also available for charter hire; while the Events Train offers space for up to 250 guests and is only suitable for day trips.

Each train has accommodation carriages, dining cars, a lounge car with ±26 seats; a small gift shop, a smoking lounge with ±11 seats; and an observation car with ±32 seats and an open-air balcony.

Rovos Rail Suite Types

All the suites offer passengers the opportunity to travel in privacy, comfort and luxury. With fittings and facilities that are of the highest standard. The wood paneled rebuilt sleeper coaches, remodeled and refurbished to mint condition, offer every modern convenience and comfort. In the en-suite bathrooms, original fittings combine with the modern technology of hot showers, flushing toilets, hair dryers, and shaver plugs. The Royal Suite also has a small Victorian bath.

Suites all have a writing surface and a personal safe for valuables. There is also a bar fridge; filled with beverages of the passengers’ choice and room service is available 24 hours a day. There is adequate storage and small cupboards with hangers and shelves.

A dedicated host/ess is always available and services the suites daily.

Pullman Suites (±7 sq metres / ±76 sq feet)

The Pullman Suites have a comfortable sofa seat during the day; with a conversion to double or twin beds (bunk) for the evening. These suites are ideal for single travelers due to their size.

Pullman Gold Suites (±7 sq metres / ±76 sq feet)

The Pullman Golds are mostly used on the longer journeys. They accommodate one or two passengers in double or split twin beds. The Split Twin is the preferable setup between the Split Twin and Double Lengthways and will be illustrated at check-in.

Deluxe Suites (±10 sq metres / ±118 sq feet)

The Deluxe Suites accommodate two passengers in either twin or double beds. They have a lounge area.

Royal Suites (±16 sq metres / ±172 sq feet)

The Royal Suites, each of which takes up half a carriage, are spacious and elegant. Each has its own private lounge area and full bathroom with a Victorian bath and separate shower. The epitome of luxury with handsome wood paneling and period Edwardian features; the air-conditioned suites accommodate two people offering the option of a side-by-side twin or a spacious double bed.

Dress Code

Days onboard are smart casual – Neat, conventional yet relatively informal in style combining casual and formal clothing pieces. Evening attire is more formal. For gentlemen; a collar and tie is a minimum requirement while for ladies we suggest cocktail / evening dresses or suits.

Durban (2 nights) with option to extend to Cape Town or Victoria Falls.
Namibia (11 nights)*
Victoria Falls (4 or 5 nights) with an option to include a stay in Victoria Falls – the ideal honeymoon extension.
Southern Cross Rail Journey (11 nights) – South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Dar es Salaam (16 nights) – South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania.
African Trilogy (15 nights) – a multi-country itinerary visiting South Africa, eSwatini and Namibia.

*The Namibia Route now has an option to start or end in Cape Town.

Luxury Golf Packages

For golfers and non-golfers, we have the following Rovos Rail journeys:

Golf Safari (9 nights) – travels the northeastern reaches of South Africa and will entertain the most avid golfers with a delightful itinerary for non-playing guests.
African Collage (12 nights) – includes Kruger National Park, Hluhluwe, Durban, Drakensberg, Port Elizabeth, and George to Cape Town. The northbound journey also includes Eswatini.
