Buhoma Lodge Accommodation
With Buhoma set just steps away from the trek start point, gorillas have been spotted popping in the gardens for an occasional visit. While a resident L’Hoest’s monkey troop visit almost daily, much to the delight of guests.
Tranquil and cozy, the ten spacious Eco friendly wooden chalets offer a private escape. Fall asleep to the sounds of the forest and awaken to chattering birds and monkeys as day breaks. Enjoy your morning tea/coffee on your private verandah with sweeping views over the primal forest. What better way to start the day?
The chalets may have been built with consideration for the forest, but comfort hasn’t been compromised on. Inside the spacious chalets you will find large, comfortable beds and everything you need to make yourself at home. The roomy en-suite bathroom with flush toilet contains a rain shower with a copious supply of hot water. And locally produced natural ranges of complementary bathroom amenities. Some chalets also offer a bath-tub for relaxation and enjoyment after the day’s activities.

Activities from Buhoma Lodge
You’ve arrived in one of Uganda’s most remote and beautiful regions. Bwindi is one of the top 10 birding sites in Africa with over 350 recorded species, including 23 endemics. Over 200 spectacular butterfly species. As well as L’Hoest’s monkey, black and white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, giant forest hog and the African golden cat are found here.
Mountain Gorilla Trekking
The highlight of any trip! An early morning start ensures enough time to find the gorillas in the forest. Timings vary tremendously. This is because the gorillas are free to roam vast forest area. A trek can take a couple of hours. But it can also be for a full day of up to 8 hours or more of hiking. This all depends where the gorillas are. Buhoma Community Village Walk
This walk provides guests with an opportunity to support the local community. Whilst enjoying visiting various interesting places as you follow a walking trail through the village. Highlights include the traditional healer, banana brewery and Mukono Primary school. Where you may interact with the children during school terms.
Bwindi Community Hospital
The Bwindi Community Hospital opened during 2003. It has grown from small beginnings. To become an essential service provider for the immediate communities and much of the surrounding areas too. Caring for more than 100 000 individuals. Visit it to learn how it is helping to improve the quality of many lives.
Ride 4 a Women
Ride 4 a Woman was set up in 2009 to support local women struggling at home. Mainly with issues associated with HIV, domestic violence and poverty. Visitors are invited to view the women working at the local center. Sewing, weaving and learning new skills for making a living and helping towards an education for their children.
Batwa Empowerment Village (BEV)
A cultural experience offering a glimpse into the former livelihood of the Batwa people. Learn how the Batwa survived in the forest as hunter/gatherers. How they collected honey – a favorite delicacy, the plants and herbs they used and how they danced, sang and socialized. Discuss traditional Batwa burial rites. Listen to ancient stories and legends from a people at one with their environment. Test your skill with a Batwa bow and arrow as they demonstrate how they hunted. Or, make fire and carved cups and plates from forest materials.
Bwindi Forest Walk
This can be undertaken with a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide. To allow you to hike along the trails and enjoy the forest flora and fauna. A popular choice is the 3-4 hour hike to the waterfall. Get lost in the ancient forests of Bwindi with an experienced guide on hand.
Bird Watching
This can be done around the lodge and walks in the forest with local qualified guides. This forest area has recorded over 350 bird species. Of particular interest are the 23 species endemic to the Albertine Rift. And at least 14 recorded nowhere else in Uganda.
Butterfly Watching
Possible in the forest with Bwindi being home to over 200 species. Some of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift Valley
When to go to Bwindi
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest may be visited throughout the year. High season runs from June—Sep and Dec—February. This is when it is slighly drier and therefore the trails are less slippery.
Getting to Buhoma Lodge
Daily scheduled flights operate from Entebbe to Kihihi airstrip, the closest airstrip to Buhoma. It is about a 90 minute transfer from Buhoma.
Buhoma Lodge is about a 2 to 3 hour drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park. Its about a 6 to 7 hour drive from Lake Mburo National Park. Or a 10 to 11 hour drive from Entebbe.
Fly-in safaris offer quick, easy access and are ideal for those who are short on time. Full safari packages with permits, transport and guiding can also be arranged.
Children up to 4 years old sharing with adults are free.
Rates Include:
Full Board accommodation with 3 meals per day, all hot beverages and bar snacks, and house drinks. In addition all guests receive one complimentary 30 min massage per stay.
Rates Exclude:
National Park Fees, Road Transfers, Premium and non house drinks. Any optional activities and Community & Wildlife Conservation Fees to the Future Generations Trust. This is currently $10 per person per night.
