Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is a breathtaking luxury lodge set high above the clouds, in Nkuringo. Bordering the southwestern corner of the Bwindi Inpenetrable Forest National Park. It is at 2100m with a sweeping panoramic view of the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes and the Great Rift Valley. One can often see the volcanoes glowing red in the night sky.
The main lodge feels like someplace else. Soaring ceilings, massive exposed wooden beams, big picture windows with endless views of treetops, volcanoes and mountains. It feels like a ski chalet in the alps. Or a stone palace in the Rocky Mountains. But with the gentle and warm welcome, and the smiles on the faces of virtually all the staff, this can only be in Uganda.
But the best part of Clouds is its pedigree as a ground breaking community conservation story. Built in partnership with the local community of Nkuringo as well as the Africa Wildllife Foundation and the International Gorilla Conservation Program, Clouds benefits not just the gorillas and their habitat, but also the development of the local community who are the true owners of this property.

Cottages (x 8)
Guests stay in private standalone stone cottages at Clouds Gorilla Mountain Lodge. All of similar fine standard. A dedicated butler service ensures attentive, personalized care throughout your stay.
The cottages are large and spacious with en-suite bathrooms. All cottages have their own private sitting room with a fireplace and deep comfy armchairs and sofa. The cottages have windows everywhere to allow the view in. Each cottage features the original commissioned artwork of an individual Ugandan artist and has breathtaking views through big picture windows looking out to the Virunga Volcanoes. The cottages have outdoor verandas with sitting area to take in the views.
2 of the cottages are Family Rooms that have a grassed area outside where guests can sit and drink in the view. The family cottages feature two bedrooms with en-suite bathroom. Each bedroom can be configured with either twin beds or one king bed.

Gorilla Tracking
Gorilla tracking is the highlight of a trip to Clouds, and for many it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Nkuringo gorilla family home range is around a 2 hour hike from the lodge depending on the movement of the group. The starting point is directly outside of the lodge. There are currently an additional 7 other habituated gorilla families (Rushaga group) that are also easily accessible from Clouds (+/- 45 min drive to the starting point).
The tracking can take anywhere between 2-8 hours and requires a degree of fitness and physical ability. Weather is unpredictable, the terrain can be challenging and the memories will be long lasting!!
This is a truly unique wildlife encounter combining wilderness, wonder and awe.
Weather and when to visit Clouds Gorilla Mountain Lodge
Jan – May : Intermittent short showers through the day. Can get quite cold at times.
Jun – Aug : Dry season. Quite hot and generally dry. A little windy, but mostly warm.
Sep – Dec : Typical rainy season filled with storms. Tends to be a little cold in the evening.
Throughout the year, it is usually cool in the evenings.
Please remember that seasons are changing constantly in the world and are no longer predictable!
The best time to visit Bwindi is the dry seasons (December to March & June – September) offering optimal trekking conditions. But it is a year round destination with gorilla tracking all year.

By Road:
Clouds is approximately 8-9 hours from Entebbe by road.
By Air:
Daily scheduled flights into Kisoro take approximately 1 hour 15 mins. Followed by a 1 1/2 – 2 hour drive to the lodge). Charters can easily be arranged as well.

Child Policy at Clouds Gorilla Mountain Lodge
Children need to be aged 15 years and above in order to track the Gorillas. But children of all ages are welcome at the Lodge. Children’s activities can be arranged whilst adults are tracking.
Children below 5 years stay at the lodge free of charge.
If one adult is sharing a room with 1 or more children, the adult pays the adult single rate and each child pays the child rate.
If 2 or more children share one room, one child will pay the adult sharing rate and the other will pay the child rate.
Children below 12 years old cannot be accommodated at Honey Bear or Papa’s Camp.
