A Skeleton Coast tour takes you to Namibia’s notorious, shipwrecked-strewn coast. It stretches north of Swakopmund all the way up to the border of Angola. From the Ugab River in the South to the Kunene River in the North. A vast, desolate stretch of coastline where the Atlantic meets the desert.
Skeleton Coast National Park is divided into two sections. The southern section (Ugab Gate to Torra Bay) is self drive on gravel and salt roads. Visitors must purchase a permit at the entrance gate.
The northern section is a true wilderness, accessible only on guided tours or by flight.
It is hard to imagine how wildlife could survive these harsh conditions, but they have all adapted to this. Hartmann’s mountain zebra, gemsbok, desert-adapted elephant, Cape fur seals, brown hyena, giraffe, and occasionally, cheetah may all be found in this wild and rugged landscape.
