Planning a honeymoon to the Zambezi Region offers a completely different vibe compared to the rest of Namibia’s desert landscapes. Here, it’s all about lush wetlands, winding rivers, boat safaris, and rich wildlife.
If your priority is classic game viewing, this is the best time for your honeymoon. This is peak travel season, so rates will be at their highest and you need to book well in advance.
As the surrounding bush dries out, animals congregate in massive numbers along the permanent water sources. You will see incredible herds of elephants and buffalo right from your lodge deck or a boat cruise.
Expect clear blue skies, zero rain, and pleasant, warm days. However, pack some warm layers for early morning boat trips and game drives, as winter mornings can be surprisingly crisp.

This is a fantastic, often underrated window for a romantic honeymoon. It is much quieter than the July to October rush, offering a more exclusive, intimate feel at the lodges. Temperatures are highly comfortable.
The heavy summer rains have ended, leaving the floodplains incredibly green, vibrant, and beautiful. But because there is still plenty of water around, wildlife can be a bit more scattered than in later months. Although, river dwelling animals like hippos and crocodiles are always abundant.
This is the region’s rainy summer season, turning the landscape into a tropical paradise.
If either of you loves birdwatching, this time of year is spectacular. Migratory birds arrive in their thousands, creating an incredible display of color and song. It’s also the time for newborn animals.
It gets hot and humid, with dramatic afternoon thunderstorms. January to March usually sees the heaviest rainfall, which can sometimes impact road accessibility.
Lodges often offer excellent “green season” rates, and you will feel like you have the entire place to yourselves. It’s romantic, dramatic, and lush. Provided you don’t mind the heat and occasional downpour.
The accommodations in the Zambezi Region are designed for intimacy. Luxury lodges are typically built on raised wooden decks right over the river or hidden deep within riverine forests.
Although there are several good lodges in the Zambezi Region, very few of them offer honeymoon packages. But they are still quite suitable. We will obviously be aware of this needing to be super special for your honeymoon. And most lodges will do things like romantic turndowns.
