Governors Sky Safari (6 Days)

Governors Sky Safari

The Governors’ Sky Safari is a luxury 6 day Kenya flying safari visiting Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, and the Masai Mara. This safari is small and exclusive. Where days are spent on game drives, and boating in the Rift Valley. For some, it is the crossroads in their lives. An emotional rebirth, a lightening of the spirit at the sight of so many animals and so much space.

Governors’ opened Kenya’s first exclusive safari camp in the early 1970s and today it still upholds the best kept traditions. Expect the guides to be excellent, the food delightful and the accommodation extremely comfortable. Governors’ provide a ‘home from home’ service, with all meals and activities included. The team is very flexible and tries to tailor all activities around its guests.

The main attraction of the Governor’s Sky Safari is the stunning accommodation in the Masai Mara. The itinerary at either property stays the same. They all include 2 nights at Loldia House in Naivasha plus 3 nights in the Masai Mara. The only difference in the rates is based on which accommodation you chose to suit your personalities and preferences in the Masai Mara.

Governors Sky Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Naivasha

Early morning collection from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or a city center hotel and transfer to Wilson airport. Depart on Governors Aviation at 9.30 am and arrive at Loldia airstrip at 9.50 am. On arrival the lodge vehicle will transfer you to the lodge. Lunch on the lawn overlooking Mt Longonot.

Enjoy the afternoon with game drives around the farm, or perhaps a boat trip on the lake. Or simply relax around the beautiful infinity pool which offers stunning lake views. Or even book yourself in for some of our luxury spa treatments!

Overnight at Loldia House in a Cottage Room on a full board and activities basis including purified water and laundry.

Loldia House

The early settlers found vast herds of game including predators, and a profusion of bird life around these spectacular lakes. They lived an outdoor lifestyle. Riding, hunting, fishing, and walking. Loldia House was established by a settler who arrived by ox wagon just after the Boer War and it’s still owned by the same family today. Nestled under acacia and wild fig trees on the western shores of Lake Naivasha, there are just a handful of comfortable double rooms with en suite bathrooms here. The cuisine and the service are both absolutely first-rate.

The farm is ideally situated to visit the flamingo lakes of Nakuru and Elementaita. With Nakuru offering excellent viewing chances for white rhinos seen amongst an abundance of other bird and animal life. The 6,500 acres of farm is well stocked with herds of cattle and a flock of farmed ostriches. Interspersed with impala, water buck, and other plains game. Boat trips may be arranged on Lake Naivasha for fishing and bird watching, and visits can be made to Hell’s Gate National Park with its spectacular canyon, hot springs, and high raptor population. Activities are tailor-made for each guest.

At Loldia, activities include guided boat rides and trips to Lake Nakuru and Hell’s Gate National Parks. And a visit to the local flower farms and a local school.

Day 2: Great Rift Valley

During your time at Loldia, you can either opt for a full day’s activities on Loldia Ranch. These include bird watching and boat trips on Lake Naivasha, visits to the local flower farm and a night game drive.

Or you can have a super early morning start and head off to Lake Nakuru National Park with a packed breakfast. Lake Nakuru is famous for its abundance of flamingos and a large variety of water birds. The park was declared a rhino sanctuary in 1983 and is currently home to both black and white species which are regularly seen. Along with good sightings of leopard.

A picnic lunch is served under the Acacia trees overlooking the lake. Or you can head back to Loldia for a late lunch. There is also the option to stop at Lake Elementeita on your way back. A soda lake which is an important breeding site for many threatened bird species and famous for its population of flamingos.

Day 3: Naivasha – Masai Mara

Enjoy breakfast on the lawns at Loldia House. Then its off to the airstrip where you will catch a flight to Kenya’s World famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. It’s a short game drive to the camp and on arrival you can settle into your tent. Have lunch and relax.

Embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive at around 3:30pm and return in the dusk for drinks and chatter around the campfire before your dinner. Fall asleep to the night-time chorus of the Masai Mara!

For a particularly memorable and unforgettable experience, enjoy a surreal journey in a hot air balloon over the Masai Mara plains.

This adventure begins just before dawn. Depart the camp at 5.15am to the balloon safaris launch site, just behind Little Governors’ Camp. The fabulous sunrise flight lasts approximately one hour depending on weather conditions. On landing, sit down to a delicious bush breakfast. Freshly cooked on balloon burners in the middle of the Mara plains. Toast your return to Mother Earth together with your pilot over a glass of sparkling wine. Game drive back to your camp.
