Southern Mozambique Beaches include Ponta d’Ouro, Ponta Mamoli, Ponta Malongane, Inhaca Island.
Ponta d’Ouro is in Southern Mozambique. Only 100 kilometers from Maputo and about 10 kilometers from the Kosi Bay border with South Africa. In the main part of the quaint town; there is a traditional open-air market.
Ponta Mamoli and Ponta Malongane are close neighbors. In these areas; accommodation is usually quite basic with a couple of exceptions. For example; Machangulo Beach Lodge and White Pearl Resorts. Many of the roads are sandy beach roads. Therefore a 4×4 is required; although transfers can be arranged.
From Maputo, there is a regular fairy service to Inhaca Island or a 10 minute flight. Inhaca Island is a natural paradise of breathtaking coral reefs and beaches almost 40km off the coast of Maputo. This is a diver’s and deep sea fishing paradise.
Portuguese Island is a deserted island just northwest of Inhaca and it has magnificent beaches and a lagoon. Home to countless birds, amazing marine life, and mangrove trees, it is a protected reserve.
Southern Mozambique beaches have a great year-round average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The rainfall is mostly between November and April; typically during this time; it can be very hot and humid.
Keep a lookout for Dolphin and Whale Sharks and you can also swim and dive with them. Turtles lay their eggs on the beaches (in season) and beach walks are great.
There is excellent diving and deep sea fishing in the area and surfing is also popular.
