Day 1, Namib Desert (280km)

Pick up from your hotel in either Windhoek or Swakopmund just before 2 pm in summer, or 1 pm in winter. We will stop at the small settlement Solitaire and continue to the beautifully set Namib Naukluft Lodge & Soft Adventure Camp in Namib Naukluft Park. Both establishments are located on the private nature reserve: NamNau Habitat, which hosts a variety of desert-adapted wildlife like Springbok, Oryx, ostrich, aardwolf, bat-eared fox, and many more.

The Namib Naukluft Park is the largest conservation area in Africa. Optional activities at your lodge consist of scenic nature drives and marvelous walking trails.

Explorer package: Soft Adventure Camp (Dinner)
Comfort package: Namib Naukluft Lodge (Dinner)

Day 2, Sossusvlei (240km)

An early morning rise with a snack before leaving enables you to arrive at Sesriem, the Park’s gate at around sunrise. The route leads along and also across the Tsauchab dry riverbed, which has found a way through the dunes until it reaches the clay pan – the Sossusvlei. After a good rainy season – about every 7 to 10 years – the Tsauchab River runs in full flood and fills the Vlei with water. For months it remains here and offers sensational scenery with prolific birdlife. The early morning sun offers spectacular pastel colors in the star-shaped dunes. This is the highlight for the keen photographer.

Your first stop will be at Dune 45 before we continue to the Sossusvlei. Climb one of the dunes. There are plenty. And you might be overwhelmed by the sight of the dynamic and living desert!  Breakfast will be in the form of a picnic under one of the shady camel thorn trees before you continue to the base of the ‘Dead Vlei’. It is quite a walk over patches of dunes that are crossing your way. When you arrive you will be paid off for your efforts – the scenery is awesome! We will visit the Sesriem Canyon, a 30-meter deep rift before we return to our base Namib Naukluft Lodge and the Soft Adventure Camp for a late lunch. During the late afternoon, a sundowner drive to the natural marble mountains on this 25,000-ha private nature reserve is included.

Explore: Overnight at Soft Adventure Camp – Breakfast pack, lunch, and dinner.
Comfort: Overnight at Namib Naukluft Lodge – Breakfast pack, lunch, and dinner.

Sossusvlei Shuttle Accommodation

Namib Naukluft Lodge

The Namib Naukluft Lodge is backed by impressive granite hills with striking views over the open desert plains. It consists of 16 x en-suite rooms and offers the ideal gateway to the Namib Desert. The spacious interior is tastefully furnished without being overloaded with extra frills. The king-size or twin beds are furnished with Simmons – world-class mattresses dressed up with white percale cotton linen for exquisite comfort. All pillows and duvets are hyper allergenic for those with extra sensitivity. All rooms have air conditioning, and fridges, and offer a private veranda with inspiring views.

The main building offers a comfortable lounge exhibiting local decor items as well as original paintings, prints, and hand-woven carpets from local artists. Delicious traditional meals are served on the veranda. Or prepared by the chef on the open fire in the Lapa. This enhances the feeling of a very special desert evening. The bar and in winter; the fireplace offer a cozy round-up of a great and adventurous day.

In the early morning hours, when the desert seems to wake up and stretch, the sun giving its first tender light, it is the ideal time to go for an easy walk. Well-marked walking trails lead up the granite hill, around the mountain, or to the nearby – bird hide. It is the best time for the keen photographer! During the heat of the day after taking part in one of the excursions the best spot to linger is at the crystal clear swimming pool.

Soft Adventure Camp

The Soft Adventure Camp is located on the outcrops of the granite hill. Each unit is individually placed in order to keep an open view of the plains of the savannah. The 15 x chalets are based on a fixed structure with canvas partitions offering a spacious interior with en-suite facilities. The canvas gives you the feeling of a ‘close to nature’ tented camp, yet the fixed structure offers the protection of a plain and rustic room. All chalets have a water-cooler system and air ventilation. Shaded space in front of the bungalows enables you to enjoy your view during the early morning hours or during sunset.

Walkways lead to the centrally located main building. The main building is based on the top of the hill. The bar offers cold beverages and the light wind offers a nice cool breeze during the heat of the day. It is also the dining area; where dinners are a special event: Watch the chef prepare your meal right in the center of the boma. It is a traditional meal, the celebration of the day, and a social get-together with new friends. A splash pool is right on site, nestled in the rocks. It offers you the desired refreshment after an adventurous day! During the course of the day, you may want to participate in any of the guided excursions or just relax and enjoy the beautiful desert scenery. The nearby waterhole attracts springbok, ostrich, and zebra and gives a peaceful impression.
