Chobe Honeymoon

A Chobe National Park safari is an excellent choice for a honeymoon. Offering a unique blend of adventure, amazing wildlife, luxury, and romance. In one of Africa’s most pristine wilderness areas.

Unrivaled Wildlife Experiences

Chobe National Park is home to the world’s largest population of Kalahari elephants, with an estimated 120,000 of these magnificent animals roaming the area. This means you are virtually guaranteed to have up-close encounters with huge herds.

Beyond elephants, Chobe boasts a high concentration of buffalo, lions, leopards, hippos, and crocodiles. Plus a variety of other plains game and predators. The Savuti region, in particular, is known for its dramatic predator action.

Unlike many other safari destinations, Chobe offers fantastic water-based safaris. Cruising along the Chobe River in a motorboat provides a unique perspective for viewing wildlife. Especially animals and birds that frequent the riverbanks. Many of the boats are becoming solar powered to reduce their carbon footprint. This means you can approach the wildlife silently.

Due to it’s close proximity to Zimbabwe and Zambia, it is possible to visit Victoria Falls for the day from Chobe.

Romantic Touches:
Honeymoon packages often include special inclusions like private dinners under the stars, romantic turndown service, and private plunge pools, creating a truly special atmosphere. Some lodges even have “star beds” where you can sleep out under the vast African sky.

The best time for a honeymoon in the Chobe National Park

The best time for a honeymoon in Chobe National Park depends on your priorities. Generally it is considered that the dry season (May to October) is the top choice for a classic safari experience with peak wildlife viewing.

Dry Season (May – October)

The dry season is the most popular time for a Chobe safari. This is Botswana’s winter so days are clear and sunny. While the early mornings and evenings get cool. Perfect for romantic fireside moments and cuddling in the night. The lack of rain also means there are fewer mosquitoes and easily navigable roads.

As the landscape dries out, animals congregate along the Chobe River and other permanent water sources. This makes it an excellent time to witness huge herds of elephants and buffalo. Aas well as predators like lions, leopards, and wild dogs.

Considerations: This is the peak tourist season, so lodges and flights can be more expensive. The Chobe River can become very busy taking away from the experience. Some lodges flip activities around to avoid the busiest times. The lodges outside of the main Kasane area are ideal at this time. You’ll need to book well in advance. Temperatures can get very hot, especially in September and October.

Green Season (November – April)

If you prefer intimacy and solitude, the Green Season is a fantastic time for a honeymoon in Chobe. The landscape is transformed into a lush, vibrant wonderland by the rains. Offering a unique and beautiful backdrop for your honeymoon.

While animals are more spread out away from the water sources, you can still have excellent sightings. This is the birthing season for many animals, so you’ll see a lot of newborn wildlife. It’s also the best time for bird watching, as migratory species arrive in huge numbers.

The scenery is stunning for photography, and the dramatic afternoon thunderstorms can be a beautiful sight. Lodges are less crowded, often offering lower rates and a more private experience. The Green Season is also called the “secret” season for romance.

Considerations: There is a higher risk of rain and a greater risk of malaria during this time. Precautions are necessary. Some roads may become impassable. And the heat and humidity can be intense.

The Shoulder Months (April, May & November)

These months offer a great compromise if you want to avoid the peak season crowds while still enjoying good game viewing.

April & May:
The rains have subsided, the landscape is still green and beautiful, and the air is clear. Wildlife is beginning to gather around water sources, but there are fewer tourists.

November: This month marks the transition from dry to wet. With the first dramatic thunderstorms. The anticipation for the rains is palpable, and it’s a very exciting time to be in the park.

Chobe National Park lodges (including Savute) that offer honeymoon discounts

Chobe offers a range of luxurious lodges and tented camps that provide all the comforts you could desire. These often feature elegant interiors, spacious rooms with stunning views, and top-notch amenities. Many will be on an All Inclusive basis which includes your activities. This means you can relax and enjoy your trip without worrying about extra costs. But there are a few more affordable gems that we can also recommend.

These are some of the Chobe lodges/camps that have honeymoon offers. Most other lodges will still make sure your Chobe honeymoon is one not to be forgotten!
