Southern Zimbabwe is very remote and well off the beaten track. Of note are Gonarezhou National Park and Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. It is best to fly to both regions as driving is long and tedious.

Gonarezhou National Park
Gonarezhou National Park is an incredible attraction in the southeastern section of Zimbabwe. It is remote and not that easy to get to so not crowded. We believe it is well worth a visit due to the pristine wilderness and incredible landscapes. The Chilojo Cliffs stand tall – 180 meters high and running for some 20 kilometers. It is one of Zimbabwe’s biggest conservation success stories.
Gonarezhou means “place of the elephants” and it has over 8,000 of them. Lions, leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, buffalo, hippos, and giraffes can all be seen. But this country is known, first and foremost, as the Land of the Elephant.
Three rivers run through Gonarezhou National Park. The Mwenezi to the west, the Runde through its heart, and the Save forming its eastern boundary. The park is over 5,000 km2.
Gonarezhou National Park forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. A peace park that links it with the Kruger National Park and the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique. The Mozambique part is still a work in progress but it has already opened up some of the ancient migratory routes, especially for the elephants.
Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve (Singita’s concession)
Singita is a leading conservation management company in Africa with an outstanding track record. Their lodges in Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve are Singita Pamushana Lodge and Malilangwe House.
Malilangwe remains virtually untouched by humankind. It occupies a key position in an area that is potentially one of Africa’s largest bio refuges. The vegetation on the ridges and rocky outcrops is characterized by flat topped Mountain Acacia woodlands and ironwood thickets. The area is home to hundreds of baobab trees. As well as a great variety of rare and abundant wildlife. And more than 500 bird species, including many raptors. Malilangwe, means ‘cry of the leopard’.
With exclusive access to Singita guests, it offers a one of a kind wilderness experience.
