Singita Boulders Lodge (Sabi)

Singita Boulders Lodge

Singita Boulders Luxury Lodge sits along the boulder-strewn banks of the Sand River, in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve. It seamlessly blends the beautiful light, colors and textures of its surrounds into vast interiors. That spill onto expansive wooden decks. Singita Boulders Lodge has a contemporary air of tranquillity that honors Africa in an authentic way.

Guests can enjoy wrap-around views from most parts of the natural stone lodge. And the lookout deck offers the perfect spot from which to observe wildlife drawn to the Sand River. A front-row seat to 30,000 acres of untouched wilderness teeming with bird and wildlife. Including frequent leopard sightings.

Cleverly designed communal spaces provide intimate opportunities for guests to connect with each other and share stories of the sightings of the day. Such as the Copper Bar serving freshly pressed juices, espressos and cocktails.

The quiet pond alongside the thatched lounge area allows the light and the landscape inside to the wide-open spaces, where straw baskets, neutral shades, and textured fabrics complement wooden furniture.

As the warmth of the African sun slowly starts to light up the treetops and grasslands, the early morning game drives are filled with an energy that’s simultaneously exciting and soothing. Never knowing what’s around the next corner, the sense of adventure for what lies ahead for the rest of the day welcomes a continuous unfolding of magic as the bush wakes up to reveal its secrets.

And when the sun dips on the horizon, bringing the day to a close with a brightly painted sky, idyllic sun downer stops in exclusive settings encapsulate the romance of safaris deep into the bush. Accompanied by a cool evening breeze and the beauty of the clear night sky above, the tranquil journey back to the lodge often reveals the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa, making for a fitting finale.

Your expert guide and tracker will accompany you as you track animals on foot through the wilderness and explore the magnificent plants and landscapes around you.

We suggest a minimum age of 16 years for this activity, but participation is at the discretion of your Field Guide.

Anti-poaching Canine Unit Sabi Sand

Visit the Sabi Sand canine unit for an interactive session . Meet with a senior handler and learn about the anti-poaching work being done. Participate in an actual tracking exercise with a dog and handler. The dogs are highly trained and able to perform multiple functions. From pursuing intruders to sniffing out rhino horn and ammunition from vehicles and bags. Contribute to the success of this anti-poaching unit and greater conservation work in the region.

A donation is requested and all funds raised are used to support the ongoing work of the canine unit

Stargazing

There is perhaps no more transcendent experience than looking up at a full sky of sparkling stars.

Man has had a love affair with the nighttime sky for centuries and with very little pollution and no city lights to detract from the stars, your view of the heavens here will be crystal clear – nothing between you and the vast African sky above.

Wellness

Offering the luxury of unfiltered time and space, the African wilderness is the ultimate setting for complete unwinding. While the continent’s healing energies are encapsulated in rituals that nourish and nurture.

At Singita, the enduring purpose to restore the land and its wildlife extends to offering healing experiences to its guests at every touch point. The dedicated treatments in the massage spaces tap into the profound benefits of indigenous wisdoms and essential oils that relax, replenish and revive. Each tailor-made therapy can be customized and timed to preference. Ensuring a completely personalized experience.

The massage menu has been designed to immerse guests into their beautiful surroundings. And all treatments incorporate that peace and vibrant energy to revitalize and nourish the soul.

Yoga

You will find a dedicated yoga mat in your suite as well as a card to guide you through a relaxing sequence in the privacy of your room or on your deck. Singita also offer Vinyasa and Yin yoga practices with trained practitioners. Simply ask the front-of-house staff to check availability, then book and join a session.

Known for seamlessly synchronizing movement with breath, Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga that moves from one posture to the next using muscular engagement. Yin is a meditative practice focusing on passive, long-held poses – often with the support of props like blocks and bolsters. It helps to improve flexibility, reduce stress, quieten the mind and foster mindfulness.

Gym

Fully equipped fitness centers are available for guests’ convenience. Each facility provides picturesque views of the bush, allowing you to keep an eye on the action outside while you work out.

Swimming Pool

Not only do you have a private pool at your suite, there is also an idyllic swimming pool at the main lodge area. Cool off during the heat of the day in the cool and calming water overlooking the beautiful landscape. You may even catch a glimpse of wildlife from the cool water that overlooks the pristine bushveld.

For Families

Children aged 10 and over are most welcome at Singita Boulders Lodge. Your tailor made family stay allows for endless discovery in nature’s abundant classroom. And with a front-row seat to the continent’s most iconic wildlife and wilderness areas, families are able to share profound and unfiltered moments in the bush throughout their stay.

Sabi Sand Family Safari ↓

Designed to specifically suit the interests of each group, family safaris awaken the senses. The Singita experience encourages an appreciation of the wilderness from a very young age. Africa’s untouched landscapes offer a rich environment for learning which cannot be found anywhere else. The Field Guides and Trackers take immense pride in sharing their vast knowledge with guests. Instilling a sense of awe and respect for the infinite beauty of the bush. About everything from bird calls to fascinating plant species.

As you immerse yourself in the wide-open spaces, a world of knowledge opens up. While strengthening the bonds with your loved ones. From easing into the luxury of sharing family meals under the stars every night to game drives. You’ll create memories to last a lifetime.

Children’s Activities

Singita’s Mini Game Rangers’ Course confirms that nothing compares to nature’s ability to inspire, excite and transform, and the value of giving the next generation the freedom to learn more about the environment in the heart of the wilderness is simply immeasurable. This specially crafted, fun-filled course teaches young explorers everything from outdoor survival and animal tracking skills to more about the wonders of astronomy and the secrets of tree and bird identification.

Wining and Dining at Singita Boulders Lodge

The lodge design was inspired by the geometry of the granite forms on which it rests. Seamlessly integrating organic interiors with the raw African beauty outside. This same approach was employed in the lodge kitchen. It is front and center and guests can view the chefs in action. The kitchen is lively and light-filled. Surrounded by landscaped areas to create a sense of the kitchen being outdoors. While large panels of frameless glazing allow guests to view the bustling dynamics of a working kitchen. Glass sliding doors also lead directly off the main pathway. Encouraging passersby to wander into the kitchen and mingle with the chefs.

Singita Boulders has herb and vegetable gardens. And they have streamlined procurement plus by reducing waste, this helps to minimize Singita’s footprint on the Earth and prioritize sustainability at every turn.

Wine Experience

Singita is recognized as one of Africa’s most influential collectors of wine. With an extensive cellar showcasing a premium selection of wines. Including some of the continent’s most sought-after private reserves, exclusive release, limited single vineyard and rare auction wines. It’s safe to say that wine is a key ingredient of the unique Singita experience.

The Singita wine list has received numerous awards of excellence, the top Diners’ Club Wine List accolade. As well as recognition from countless other local and international organizations.

Personalized wine tastings within the unique ambience of the lodge’s own temperature-controlled cellar are a true guest favorite. For connoisseurs and casual tasters alike. Singita’s experienced sommeliers are able to guide guests through a variety of wine styles, years and cultivars to find the wines most suited to their individual tastes.

As with all that Singita does, community upliftment is central to the Singita wine program as well. François Rautenbach has created a special training program for enthusiastic young wine lovers. Developing the next generation of sommeliers for Africa.

Community Upliftment and Sustainability

In South Africa, the Singita Lowveld Trust manages a wide range of conservation projects in Singita Sabi Sand and Singita Kruger National Park. From anti-poaching initiatives to wildlife research & land management. Sustainability efforts and community partnership projects such as early childhood development, digital learning and a world-class culinary school.

A highly skilled team of tracking dogs and handlers enhance anti-poaching efforts in the Sabi Sand Reserve. While the Trust’s partnership with the global conservation NGO Panthera has shown that the area is home to the largest density of leopards of any protected area surveyed in South Africa. The Panthera’s Furs for Life project, of which Singita is a partner, has reduced the demand for leopard skins with 50%.

Best Time to go on Safari

Southern Africa is a year-round destination. Traditionally the dry winter months (April to October) are best for game viewing. This is due to the shorter grass, lack of foliage and the absence of water which forces the game to concentrate around the remaining sources of drinking water.

Annual rainfall, usually in the form of short afternoon thunder showers that clear up within an hour, occur from December to March. Many species give birth to their young around the start of the rains, so the bush is alive with newborn animals.

To ensure your comfort you may want to tailor your clothing choices to the time of year:

October – April:
The weather is warm during the day and cooler in the morning and evenings. We recommend casual summer clothes (shorts and cool shirts) and a warm jersey/sweater for the cooler times of day.

May – September:
This is fall and winter and the temperature will be mild during the day, but colder in the mornings and evenings. We recommend casual light clothing and a very warm parka/jacket for the extremely cold mornings and nights.

Getting to Singita

We can arrange scheduled flights or private charters. Singita’s airstrip located 10 minutes from the lodge.
On light aircraft flights, luggage is restricted to soft sided bags.
Weight allowance: 20 kg (44 lb) for checked luggage and 5 kg (11 lb) for hand luggage.
The flight from Johannesburg – Singita Sabi Sand is approximately one hour.
The short hop flight from Nelspruit – Singita Sabi Sand is approximately 30 minutes.

Alternatively, we can arrange road transfers from Nelspruit, Skukuza or Hoedspruit.
The drive from Johannesburg is approximately 6.5 hours’ drive (+/- 500km). Or from Hazyview, it is approximately 1.75 hours’ drive (+/- 150km).
