Cellar Tour & Wine Tasting
Babylonstoren has about 94 hectares (232 acres) under vine and produces 13 different grape varieties. The highest vines; pinot noir and chardonnay; lie against Simonsberg Mountain at some 600 meters above sea level.
The Tasting Room sits adjacent to the Wine Cellar, offering views of the conical Babylonstoren hill, Simonsberg, and the Banghoek Mountains. The eye-catching steel-and-glass creation is a modern link between the two Cape Dutch-style wings of the wine cellar. And a perfect reflection of Babylonstoren’s philosophy of embracing both heritage and innovation. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls offer breathtaking views over the vineyards towards the small rocky koppie from which the farm derives its name. While indoors the striking central bar bedecked in vivid green tiles mirrors the lush vineyards beyond. A range of tantalizing snack platters with charcuterie, cheese, pâté, and fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden are on offer. The platters are an ideal light bite while tasting the Babylonstoren range of wines.
The Tasting Room is accessed via a maturation cellar. This is revamped into a retail space. With exposed brick walls, lofty ceilings, and a statuesque curving wall. A display of antique farming implements and packing crates creates a gentle farm motif in the triple-volume space. For guests with a little more time to spare, informative cellar tours offer an in-depth, behind the scenes look at how the estate’s wines are crafted. The tour includes a walk through the vineyards and a visit to the olive oil production plant. Here you are shown how extra virgin olive oil is made.
The Tasting Room is open daily. From 10 am to 5 pm in winter and 10 am to 6 pm in summer. Daily cellar tours start at the Tasting Room, every hour on the hour, from 11 am to 3 pm.

Babylonstoren Spa
Like everything else at Babylonstoren, the Garden Spa is inextricably linked to the garden. And the ever-changing seasons. Housed in the pavilion constructed of bamboo, it comprises a hammam, chill room, hot spa, and gym.

Dining at Babylonstoren Farmhouse and Farm Hotel
Babel Restaurant
Housed in the old cowshed, Babel Restaurant is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture and contemporary glass walls. It makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try their tasty yet often unconventional combinations. A farm-to-fork philosophy. Meaning Babel Restaurant likes to serve food that is seasonal and that reflects a “pick, clean, and serve” approach.
Therefore; the style of food leans towards simplicity. But with an edge. Meals are creative though always clear in structure. Vegetables and fruit gathered daily from the garden are often served with their skins on. The helpings are generous. Enjoy your meals either in the glass-enclosed restaurant or under the trees in the courtyard, depending on the weather.
Greenhouse Restaurant
At the rear of the garden, tucked away between the oak trees; the Greenhouse offers guests a wonderful refreshment station after their walk through the garden. All the food is picnic-style in wooden crates with preserves, jams, and salads in weck jars. Fresh bread from the wood-fired oven comes wrapped in the iconic blue-and-white Babylonstoren paper.
Bakery
By day, the Bakery supplies the Farm Shop and restaurants with freshly baked bread. At night this space is transformed into a true celebration of La Dolce Vita! For dinners in the Bakery, the food is family-style. Guests dish up for themselves from wooden boards placed on their tables. While sipping on wine and enjoying the lively atmosphere.
On Monday and Friday evenings, scrumptious Italian-inspired meals are available in the Bakery. The four course set menu starts with a salad and antipasti offering. Then its homemade pasta followed by moreish wood-fired pizza. Finish off with a delicious dessert and the famous coffee.
On Wednesdays, a five-course Carnivore Evening is available. The best meat in the world comes from Chianina cattle, an age-old Italian breed. Babylonstoren’s herd of Chianina is entirely farm-reared and grass-fed. And their steaks reach the rarefied levels of the best Bistecca Fiorentina. One of the most popular dishes of Tuscan cuisine. With braai masters Jaco and Eddie, you celebrate the best meat in Africa. Enjoy a glass of wine and live accordion music while the coals are glowing.
