Mont Rochelle is Sir Richard Branson’s wine estate and hotel in Franschhoek, South Africa. It offers luxurious accommodation and delicious wines and food; just under an hour’s drive from Cape Town. Franschhoek is a traditional vineyard town in the Western Cape Province – the food and wine capital of South Africa; the French Corner of the Cape.
Escape to this picturesque corner of the Cape Winelands at the foot of the Klein Dassenberg mountain range for relaxation and a superb culinary experience accompanied by some outstanding wines. The grounds at Mont Rochelle cover 39 hectares (about 100 acres) and you’re welcome to go exploring. A favorite activity for many of their guests is picnicking on the estate; the kitchen can arrange a well-stocked picnic basket with a chilled bottle of wine (or two!).
There are two restaurants, a cozy bar, a spa, a gym, and a heated outdoor pool. That’s not forgetting the 37-hectare vineyard and wine cellar of course!
The atmosphere at Mont Rochelle is casual and informal. However; that shouldn’t stop you from dressing up for dinner at MIKO; if you wish. The ambiance at The Country Kitchen, the restaurant next to the wine cellar, is relaxed.
When you’re not dining you might well be soaking up the sun around the pool; so there is some sunscreen available, however, you may wish to bring your own. If you plan on getting active in the gym then don’t forget to bring a pair of sneakers / trainers; which could also be handy if you plan on venturing further afield.
Children of all ages are welcome throughout the year at Mont Rochelle & Manor House Villa – for the ultimate South African family vacation.
Accommodation at Mont Rochelle is either at the hotel in rooms and suites. Or, at the exclusive-use Manor House.
All rooms/suites come with tea and coffee facilities including a Nespresso machine. They have Bluetooth Bose speaker sound system, and flat-screen TV with selected channels. And Africology bathroom amenities. There is also a safety deposit box and a hairdryer. The difference between staying at most other establishments in the Winelands is that Mont Rochelle; and of course; Manor House Villa; also have a well-stocked inclusive minibar. The minibar in the Manor House kids room is also stocked with age-appropriate snacks and drinks!
Hair straighteners and plug adapters are available on request. All rooms can be made up with twin beds on request.
Mont Rochelle Rooms Types ↓
In the main hotel at Mont Rochelle, there are five different types of rooms and 2 x suites.
Rooms
4 x Shiraz Rooms with king size beds that all feature courtyard or valley views. All beds can be made up with twin beds on request. The Shiraz rooms can be found in the Garden wing and Manor house wing of the hotel.
Mont Rochelle Shiraz Room
6 x Merlot rooms which are larger than the Shiraz Rooms and also boast king size beds with valley views. They are in the Garden wing and Manor House wing of the hotel. All suites can be made up with twin beds on request.
Merlot Room
6 x Cabernet rooms include a private terrace overlooking the valley. They are in the Vineyard wing of the hotel. All rooms can be made up with twin beds on request.

The four even more spacious Pinotage Suites feature a separate lounge and fantastic views. They are in the Garden wing and Manor House wing of the hotel. All suites can be made up with twin beds on request.

There are 2 x Cap Classique Suites, that enjoy a separate lounge area, a private terrace, and their own private plunge pool. They are in the Vineyard wing of the hotel. All rooms can be made up with twin beds on request.

Rates for children at Mont Rochelle
When sharing a room with their parents, children aged 5 and under stay for free; while children aged 6-15 are charged R1,400 in 2024 per night including breakfast and soft drinks. Guests aged 16 years or older are considered adults, but may be accommodated in some suites for R 2,300 in 2024. Up to two children under 16 years can share a suite with their parents.
The Manor House Villa Accommodation
The Manor House is a beautiful four-bedroom villa available to book exclusively all year. It is just a short walk from the main hotel building and a stone’s throw from the winery. The Manor House is ideal for families or small groups looking to escape to the beautiful Cape Winelands. The villa comfortably sleeps eight adults and boasts a cozy bunk room that can sleep up to six children.
Throughout your stay, you can enjoy the stunning views, spacious common areas, kitchen, gym, and outdoor heated swimming pool; not to mention the services of a chef who can prepare meals from the villa’s dedicated kitchen. You are welcome to treat the Manor House as you would your own home. You will still enjoy the service you’d expect from a luxury hotel.

Manor House Rates Include
In addition to the above standard Mont Rochelle rate inclusions; exclusive use of The Manor House also includes a daily 3-course lunch or dinner; chosen from the menu at Miko restaurant or at the Country Kitchen (lunch only). The exclusive use rate also includes laundry and all drinks (including alcohol). Plus you have private use of all the facilities, including a gym and heated outdoor pool
A 2-night minimum night stay is applicable throughout the year; while a 3-night minimum stay applies over the Festive Season. Manor can be booked on an Exclusive Use basis for 2 x suites only within 2 months of arrival. Children are not included in the rates for Manor House and are charged extra (see above rates).
Rates for Children at Manor House at Mont Rochelle
When staying at the Manor House with their parents, children aged 5 and under stay for free. While children aged 6-15 are charged R 2,140 in 2024; per night. Breakfast, soft drinks, and a choice of lunch or dinner are included during their stay. Guests aged 16 years or older are considered adults; but may be accommodated in the bunk room for R 3,425 in 2024 per night. The bunk room sleeps up to 6 children.
Cape Winelands Exclusive Use
Sometimes there’s nothing better than having the whole place to yourself; whether it’s a small group of family or friends or your entire clan! Mont Rochelle is the perfect place to host a party in style in the Winelands.
At Mont Rochelle there are different options depending on the size of your party; so you can book the private Manor House for up to eight adults. Or take the entire hotel with its 22 x rooms and suites for 44 people.
For the ultimate party; you can take both the hotel and the Manor House for a total of 26 x rooms and suites. This works fantastically well for weddings. Should you be planning an even bigger celebration; we work with nearby hotels and guest houses in Franschhoek to accommodate the rest of your party. A minimum of a two-night stay will apply.
