Uganda is rich in wildlife, birding, and cultural experiences making it great for a family safari. The countryside is lush and green. However, families must remember that children must be 15 or over to trek with the gorillas. Children must be 12 and over for chimpanzee tracking. Activities for younger children are nature walks, forest hikes, game drive / boating safaris, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Plus, cultural tours where children can make beaded jewelry, milk a goat, learn about weaving fabrics, and making/using bows and arrows.
Children will get to learn so much and seeing them witnessing the wildlife will be so rewarding for you as parents. Not to forget identifying the many birds in Uganda. While on nature trails, they will learn to identify animal tracks, insects and healing properties of plants.
For the best time to visit Uganda and more information, see Uganda.
Obviously there are health precautions that you need to be aware of but we will advise you on this when you are booking your safari. On the whole, Uganda is a very safe destination for a family safari.
Why not combine your Uganda family safari with Kenya or Tanzania to witness the Wildebeest Migration?
Uganda Attractions
Distances between attractions can be long so we would recommend a Uganda trip for older children that can handle this.
The main reason families with older children visit Uganda is to walk with gorillas. This is a wonderfully humbling experience. See this page for more info on Gorilla trekking:
