Because the reserve sits on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, it features a unique ecological crossover. You will see classic lowveld species alongside desert-adapted wildlife. We recommend April/May (the transition into autumn) or September (the sweet spot of spring). You’ll get the best of both worlds, with pleasant temperatures, excellent game viewing, and quieter lodges. September is especially spectacular because it’s still dry enough for easy wildlife tracking, but the biting winter cold has lifted. Making the weather beautifully temperate day and night.
If your primary goal is seeing the Big Five and African wild dogs, this is the absolute best window. The bush dries out, the grass drops, and natural water sources vanish. This forces wildlife to gather in massive numbers around the permanent waterholes right in front of the luxury lodges.

The summer rains transform the reserve into a vibrant, emerald-green paradise. This is calving season, meaning the bush is full of newborn impala lambs, zebra foals, and baby elephants. Which naturally brings out plenty of predator action. The summer months are beautiful with dramatic scenery, warm weather, and a slightly more intimate, slower-paced trip.
