Eastern Cape Honeymoon

The Eastern Cape is an absolute gem for a honeymoon because it gives you completely different worlds to choose from. It is South Africa’s most diverse province. Transitioning from rugged, dramatic coastlines to malaria-free “Big Five” safaris and misty mountains.

For safaris, Shamwari is the largest with 7 lodges to choose from. Addo is also in the Eastern Cape, plus many other lodges on the outskirts.

With its scenic mountains and beaches, the Eastern Cape offers tons of romantic safaris and honeymoon getaways in wilderness areas. Whether at the beach, in forests, and in the countryside. The coastline is 800 km (497 miles), stretching from the Tsitsikamma to the subtropical Wild Coast.

When is the best time for an Eastern Cape honeymoon?

Because the Eastern Cape blends beach, bush, and mountains, the “best” time depends entirely on whether you want to prioritize premier wildlife viewing or warm beach days.

December to March (Summer)

Summer is best if your dream honeymoon involves swimming in the Indian Ocean, sunbathing on the beaches, and long, balmy evenings. The days are hot, and the vibe is classic summer holiday energy. The ocean temperature is at its warmest. While the coastal forests and bush are incredibly lush, green, and beautiful.

This is the rainy season for the interior, meaning you can expect occasional, dramatic afternoon thunderstorms that cool things down. January and February are the hottest months (frequently reaching 30°C).

Mid-December to early January is peak local school holiday season, so beaches and family resorts will be busy. You will need to book well in advance.

April to May (Autumn)

Autumn is a great time to travel to South Africa as the weather settles to warm and clear days with less wind. And the peak summertime crowds have disappeared. This makes it fantastic for hiking (Tsitsikamma is a highlight) or taking long walks on the secluded beaches.

June to August (Winter)

Winter is a great time for an Eastern Cape safari. The bush thins out (due to no rain), and animals congregate around permanent waterholes. With crisp, clear blue skies and dry, and golden landscapes. Daytime temperatures are lovely and mild (around 20°C), but mornings and nights get bitterly cold. Sometimes dropping close to freezing. You will need heavy jackets and beanies for those early morning game drives!  You are almost guaranteed spectacular wildlife sightings. Lodges are also generally quieter and cozier, with roaring fireplaces.

September to October (Spring)

If you want to combine a safari with a coastal getaway, spring is arguably the best all-around time to visit. The weather transitions into beautifully mild, warm days, but the intense summer heat hasn’t hit yet. Daytime highs hover around 17°C to 24°C, though mornings and evenings remain crisp.

September is prime calving season on the game reserves, so you will see plenty of newborn animals. It also overlaps with the tail-end of the whale-watching season along the coast.

Had a close friend’s 50th organised by Jenny which included making end-to-end arrangements for each person in the group (traveling to SA from various countries) and saw us meet in Johannesburg, then fly to Kasane and on to Chobe (Ichingo Chobe River lodge) before heading to Zimbabwe where we stayed at another great game lodge and had a superb itinerary designed for the group that included sunset drinks on a large riverboat on the Zambezi and white water rafting the following day (not for the faint of heart!). Apart from it being a trip of a lifetime, the communication with everyone and overall organization from Jenny was exceptional. I now recommend that any friend of mine looking to travel to that part of the world get in touch with Jenny.

Absolutely fantastic - been able to see so much of South Africa in two weeks (which we didn’t think would be possible)! Great range and quality of places to stay, awesome variety of activities and locations and catered the trip to our own preferences amazingly! It was an added bonus to be able to meet her in person - so warm, considerate and chatty! I would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to see what South Africa has to offer, and the email communication beforehand was reassuring. Thank you for the trip of a lifetime!

Jenni organised a fantastic holiday for our family. Understood what we were looking to achieve, chose some amazing places to stay including tents at Kruger, which all added to the adventure .Jenni has been so helpful from the start and available throughout the holiday. Definitely recommend Jenni to anyone visiting South Africa.

Africa A-Z, and Jenny McGregor in particular, made our Zanzibar trip an absolute dream from start to finish. Jenny took the stress out of planning completely — every detail was organised seamlessly, from flights to transfers to the hotel itself, and she was on hand for every question along the way. The hotel she recommended was magnificent, exactly as she promised, and the perfect backdrop for the biggest moment of our trip: we got engaged there! Jenny somehow knew it would be the right setting before we did, and it made the whole experience even more special. From start to finish, it was five-star treatment all round — from Jenny's care and attention, to the hotel's service and setting. We couldn't have asked for a better trip, and we cannot recommend Jenny and Africa A-Z enough. If you're after a seamless, unforgettable holiday, book with them.

A-Z travel was amazing. Jenny couldn’t have been more helpful. Not only did she organise our booking and shuttle from Windhoek to Sossusvlei and then onto Swakopmund, but also our hotel in Swakopmund and the airport transfer when we left. Very professional and quick response to queries I highly recommend Jenny and A-Z travel

I used Africa A - Z to plan a trip to Namibia (Sossusvlei). Jenny was AMAZING in helping before the trip - she really went the extra mile to find a way of managing payment that I felt comfortable with. The trip itself was also great - transport and accommodation had no issues. Thanks so much for the great service!

We booked a trip to Kenya with Africa A-Z and had the best experience! Jenny was very helpful with excellent communication and provided a few options for what we were looking for. She gave us loads of pre-trip support/advice and was responsive whilst we were away as well. Would highly recommend booking your travel with Africa A-Z!
