The River Club (Livingstone)

The River Club is a boutique, kosher-friendly, owner-run luxury lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River. It is just outside Livingstone, Zambia’s side of the Victoria Falls. It is the ultimate destination for that perfect mix of idyllic relaxation and adventure travel; along with unbeatable sights.

Soaked in ambiance and history, the restored 1940s homestead has a comfortable lounge, dining room, library, and veranda; where guests enjoy breakfasts and teas.

Only 18 kilometers (11 miles) from the town of Livingstone in Zambia and the mighty Victoria Falls, a World Heritage Site and one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. A highlight of any safari to Africa is seeing the magical Victoria Falls. The Falls are also called Mosi-oa-Tunya; meaning the smoke that thunders. Escape the crowds in Livingstone with this tranquil location, with spacious suites and a magnificent perspective of the Zambezi River.

Victoria Falls is about twice the height of Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. The Falls form the border between Zimbabwe (the town called Victoria Falls) and Zambia (the town called Livingstone). The River Club is a perfect end to a safari circuit in Southern or East Africa. It is an idyllic retreat for families or honeymooners.

The main lodge is surrounded by serene gardens; beneath the indigenous riverine forest. Wander the pathways listening to a chorus of birdsong or relax on the main terrace; overlooking the water or in the privacy of the balcony in front of your suite. There are no early wake-up calls unless you request them.

The River Club Accommodation

A total of 10 x private and spacious individual suites overlook the Zambezi River and the Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe. The rooms are named after people who in their day; played a special part in the history of the country.

All Suites have overhead fans above the beds, air-conditioning units; cool or warm; a safe, hair-dryer, a mini-bar fridge, and tea/coffee-making facilities.
In the event of power outages, each room has 24/7 mains backup in the form of an inverter/solar battery system; that runs the overhead fan as well as certain lights and plug sockets.

Child Rates
4 – 16 years of age – when sharing with two full paying adults, each child pays 50% of the rate.
Two under-16 children old enough to share a River Suite without an adult; each pay 50% of the single adult rate.
3-years and below – no charge if sharing parents’ bed

Room Types

River Suites

Perfectly positioned on the banks of the Zambezi River, 7 x River Suites offer seclusion and unimpeded views of the Zambezi River. They are west-facing to take advantage of the spectacular African sunsets.

The River Suites are split level. Features include a sitting area with spectacular views over the river through full-length glass doors; opening onto the private balcony; to enjoy the fresh air and the sunset. Swathed in a walk-in mosquito net, choose between an Empire King Bed or twin single beds. There are two bathrooms; a shower, basin, and toilet upstairs. And a full bathroom downstairs that has a shower, basin, ball & claw bath with a view, and a toilet.

Luxury River Suites

Two x Luxury River Suites have spacious, open-plan interiors offering the ultimate space in which to relax and unwind; after a day spent exploring Victoria Falls, playing lawn games, or visiting other nearby attractions. Tastefully decorated with furniture made from Zambezi Teak; these rooms also feature a living area and one queen-size bed swathed with a walk-in mosquito net. Both suites have a full bathroom.

One has a glass front while the other one is gauze-fronted; with an additional half bathroom. As well as room to accommodate an extra single bed.

Days are spent languishing on your secluded private deck, dipping into the private pool, and gazing over the Zambezi River.

Luxury Family River Suite

The Luxury Family River Suite is a spacious and open-plan unit with two semi-private, en-suite bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen double bed. The other has twin beds; which can become a triple with an additional single bed. Walk-in mosquito nets drape the beds. A small sitting area is located between the two bedrooms.

The main bathroom has a double vanity, bath, separate shower, and toilet. The second bathroom (down one step) has a single vanity, bath, lavatory, and separate open-air balcony shower.

Glass doors open to a private outside deck and private plunge pool with unimpeded views of the Zambezi River beyond.

The River Club is the ideal escape for families with a wealth of things to do. On the property there is croquet, snooker, tennis, fishing, and nature walks. And nearby, village trips, game drives, and other off-site outings.

Kosher-friendly Accommodation at Victoria Falls

For those seeking to visit the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls, while remaining observant; The River Club’s Kosher ‘Lite’ and Dedicated Kosher kitchen options offer a variety of mouth-watering menus; you won’t find ‘chazerei’ here.

The history of Zambia’s small Jewish community is a personal passion for Peter Jones, an owner of The River Club. His enthusiasm for the subject has led him on a journey from the past to the present. Peter decided The River Club would offer an opportunity for those seeking to visit the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls; while remaining observant.

The River Club Activities

There is a variety of on-site facilities available for all guests to enjoy. Chill at the infinity swimming pool with forever views over the river. Play croquet or boulés on the lawn. Board games in the library such as chess or backgammon or just read a book. Make use of the tennis court, the gym, the nature / running trail, and the Summerhouse. Or play snooker in the Snooker / TV room. The TV is seldom utilized as there is so much to do at The River Club!

Other on-site activities include sunset cruises, catch-and-release tiger fishing, Island Picnic Lunches on the island in front of the lodge; in low water season. Or book a massage or other treatment. You can even send the children off for a KIDS @ THE CLUB guided walk.
