Angama Safari Camp is an intimate, light footprint movable camp in the Masai Mara. Surrounded by astounding wildlife. Currently, the camp has 3 sites on private campsites deep in the remote wilderness areas of the Mara. It is in the heart of the mega herds during the months of the annual Migration (between July and September). With easy access to Angama Mara, it offers guests the best of both of worlds. Enjoy days poolside at the lodge, with access to all the facilities at Angama Mara. Returning back to Safari Camp to enjoy starlit nights around the campfire. It captures the romance and adventure of the glorious Golden Age of safaris. As the Camp is unfenced, guests will be escorted to their tents after sunset.
There is a fresh, uncluttered approach to the camp’s design. Maximizing the light and views thanks to the tents’ landscape orientation. Plus this allows the cross-breeze keeping interiors cool. Interiors echo the fresh approach to the design of Angama Mara with the best of everything. But always just the right amount of everything. As the camps are mobile, there is no air conditioning. There are fans in the tents and to maximize cross ventilation, they have a four layer tented roof system.
Angama Safari Camp has 4 x en suite tents of 32m2 / 350 sqft each. The camp accommodates up to eight guests. And have a staff complement of 13! Beds are super king, extra length and can be double or twin. The bathrooms have twin bucket showers and separate toilet.

The Masai Mara
The Masai Mara is especially renowned for its lion prides. The other members of Africa’s Big Five (leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino) are also regularly sighted. Together with hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the bat-eared fox. The Mara River is home to numerous pods of hippos and some of Africa’s largest crocodiles. Great photographic opportunities present themselves with topi standing perched on anthills. Or Masai giraffe moving gracefully across the plains. Both Grant’s and Thomson’s Gazelles graze peacefully amongst Coke’s hartebeest, impala, and herds of lovely eland, the continent’s largest antelope.

Game Drives
Some people prefer to stick to other camps routine of game drives in the morning and afternoon. But, here you have the choice of how long you want to be out on drives. Or if you would like a lie-in and late morning drive. Often taking a picnic breakfast or lunch with you.
As Angama Safari Camp is already in the Mara Triangle, it is able to offer extended game drives. From before sunrise to after sunset. Meaning a head start for the best position at crossing sites during the Migration. An all-time favorite is the full day, double-picnic safari exploring the far corners of the Mara Triangle. Drive all the way down to the Tanzanian border for your picnic breakfast in the savanna. Then take lunch in a beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere. With its endless grasslands and sweeping horizons and dappled forests, the Maasai Mara is medicine for the soul. This is one of the loveliest game drives of all, as you watch the landscape change along the way.
Game drives at Angama Safari Camp are in two safari vehicles so 4 guests in each unless a family/group wants to stay together. They have comfy seats, ample legroom, charging stations and canvas roofs for respite from the sun or flaps that can be let down if it rains. All members of the guiding team have a Bronze certification from the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association and five of them have completed their Silver certificate.

Birding
The Mara Triangle is also home to more than 470 bird species. Including almost 60 raptors such as vultures and martial eagles. The graceful crowned crane, always found in pairs, together with secretary birds, lilac-breasted rollers, long-crested eagles, superb starlings, pygmy falcons and endangered ground hornbills to name just a few.
Hot Air Balloon Safari
A hot-air balloon safari over the Maasai Mara allows you to see the Mara from a different perspective. Spot wildlife from above and enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Once you’ve landed, toast with a celebratory champagne breakfast under a tree, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. This is an iconic African experience.
Rift Valley Hike
For the fairly fit guests, a hiking safari up the Oloololo Escarpment is an exciting and challenging way to explore this historically significant geographical feature. As you ascend, expert rangers from the Mara Conservancy and a Maasai Naturalist, will not only ensure your safety but also share some stories of their many exciting hours out in the Mara Triangle. Along the way, hikers can spot a wonderful variety of birds and other animals so don’t forget your binoculars (or sturdy shoes). Panoramic views and a light refreshment awaits you at the top. Making the steep climb well worth the effort and something very few guests to the Mara Triangle get to experience.
This is a strenuous walk that is almost entirely up and downhill but frequent breaks are enjoyed throughout the hike.
As walking safaris in the Mara Triangle are not allowed, this is a rare opportunity to explore this untouched part of the park on foot.

When is the best time to visit the Masai Mara?
The Maasai Mara is great to visit all year round and there is always an abundance of wildlife. July through to September or October are the best months to visit for guests who would like to witness the Wildebeest Migration and the dramatic crossings of the Mara River. Others prefer to go outside these months so there aren’t as many people around. There are numerous resident herds that stay in this beautiful reserve all year.
Summer is from October – April. The temperatures are from min 20°C/68°F and max 34°C/94°F. Winter is from May – September. The temperatures are from min 11°C/52°F and max 25°C/77°F.
The Masai Mara has two rain seasons. Short and Long Rains are terms used by local farmers and sadly adopted and misinterpreted by the tourism industry. Long rains are in April and May. Long because the rainy season can last for 6 – 8 weeks. The short rains are between late October to December. These rains can last for 4 weeks. Please note: it does not rain day in and day out like Seattle or England! The rains usually come in dramatic late afternoon thunderstorms and after an hour out comes the sun.
Angama Safari Camp Location & Access:
Access is easy with a short 45 minute scheduled flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara. Followed by a safari from the airfield to the specific site where Angama Safari Camp has been set up.
There is excellent air access from Nairobi and the Serengeti (via Migori in Kenya and Tarime in Tanzania).
The camps are easily accessible by road from other camps in the Greater Maasai Mara.
