Mont Rochelle is Sir Richard Branson’s wine estate and hotel in Franschhoek, South Africa. It offers luxurious accommodations and delicious wines and food. Just under an hour’s drive from Cape Town. Escape to this picturesque corner of the Cape Winelands at the foot of the Klein Dassenberg mountain range for relaxation and a superb culinary experience accompanied by some outstanding wines. The grounds at Mont Rochelle cover 39 hectares (about 100 acres) and you’re welcome to go exploring. A favorite activity for many of their guests is picnicking on the estate. The kitchen can arrange a well stocked picnic basket with a chilled bottle of wine (or two!).
There are two restaurants, a cozy bar, a spa, a gym, and a heated outdoor pool. That’s not forgetting the 37 hectare vineyard and wine cellar of course!
When you’re not dining you might well be soaking up the sun around the pool. There is some sunscreen available, however, you may wish to bring your own. If you plan on getting active in the gym then don’t forget to bring a pair of sneakers / trainers. Which could also be handy if you plan on venturing further afield.

Accommodation at Mont Rochelle is either at the hotel in rooms and suites. Or, at the exclusive-use Manor House.
All rooms/suites come with tea and coffee facilities including a Nespresso machine. They have Bluetooth Bose speaker sound systems and a flat screen TV with selected channels. And luxury bathroom amenities. There is also a safety deposit box and a hairdryer. Hair straighteners and plug adapters are available on request.
The difference between staying at most other establishments in the Winelands is that Mont Rochelle Hotel; and of course; Manor House Villa; also have a well stocked inclusive minibar. The minibar in the Manor House kid’s room is also stocked with age appropriate snacks and drinks!

When sharing a room with their parents, children aged 5 and under stay for free. While children aged 6-15 are charged R 1 162,50 in 2025 / R 1 308,75 in 2026 per night. Including breakfast and soft drinks. Guests aged 16 years or older are considered adults. But may be accommodated in some suites for R 1 912,50 in 2025 / R 2 152,50 in 2026. Up to two children under 16 years can share a suite with their parents.
The Manor House Villa Accommodation

The Manor House is a beautiful four bedroom villa available to book exclusively all year. It is just a short walk from the main hotel building and a stone’s throw from the winery. The Manor House is ideal for families or small groups looking to escape to the beautiful Cape Winelands. The villa comfortably sleeps eight adults and boasts a cozy bunk room that can sleep up to six children.
Throughout your stay, you can enjoy the stunning views, spacious common areas, kitchen, gym, and outdoor heated swimming pool; not to mention the services of a chef who can prepare meals from the villa’s dedicated kitchen. You are welcome to treat the Manor House as you would your own home. You will still enjoy the service you’d expect from a luxury hotel.

A 2-night minimum night stay is applicable throughout the year; while a 3 night minimum stay applies over the Festive Season.
Manor can be booked on an Exclusive Use basis for 2 x suites only within 2 months of arrival.

Rates for Children at Manor House at Mont Rochelle
When staying at the Manor House with their parents, children aged 5 and under stay for free. Children aged 6-15 are charged R 1 770 in 2025 / R 1 991,25 in 2026; per night. Breakfast, soft drinks, and a choice of lunch or dinner are included during their stay. Guests aged 16 years or older are considered adults. But may be accommodated in the bunk room for R 2 827,50 in 2025 / R 3 180 in 2026 per night. The bunk room sleeps up to 6 children.
Cape Winelands Exclusive Use
Sometimes there’s nothing better than having the whole place to yourself; whether it’s a small group of family or friends or your entire clan! Mont Rochelle is the perfect place to host a party in style in the Winelands.
At Mont Rochelle, there are different options depending on the size of your party. So you can book the private Manor House for up to eight adults. Or take the entire hotel with its 22 x rooms and suites for 44 people.
For the ultimate party; you can take both the hotel and the Manor House for a total of 26 x rooms and suites. This works fantastically well for weddings. Should you be planning an even bigger celebration; we work with nearby hotels and guest houses in Franschhoek to accommodate the rest of your party. A minimum of a two night stay will apply.

Mont Rochelle carefully tends to diverse grape varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
At Mont Rochelle, wine tasting isn’t just a special event. It’s an everyday occurrence. Wine tastings can be organized in a variety of locations. Including in Miko Restaurant, at the bar, at the Country Kitchen, and in the wine cellar (as you might expect!).
The 150 year old wine cellar was previously used as a fruit packing shed for the early settlers. Since being converted to a traditional wine cellar Mont Rochelle can now process close to 150 tons of grapes in a season. And these smaller volumes afford more concentration on quality rather than quantity. Stainless steel tanks aid in the making of the crisp clean whites. While barrels are favored for red winemaking. Due to the winery’s National Heritage status, all of Mont Rochelle’s white wine tanks are horizontal. As the roof couldn’t be heightened to fit them all in! Wines are available to purchase.

As expected wine tasting is high on the agenda at Mont Rochelle Hotel. The wine tram is a popular way to see the town of Franschhoek. Whilst sampling some of the finest wines in the region. There are plenty of other activities to enjoy during your stay. Including hiking and mountain biking. For those needing a little bit of downtime, the pool is the perfect spot to take in the panoramic views of the Dassenberg Mountains. Followed by a spa treatment from the in house spa.
