Botswana’s accommodation is exceptionally varied. From sleeping out on the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan to luxury lodges and houseboats. We offer all lodges and camps in Botswana and will package accommodation and logistics together for seamless travel. We can also do mobile safaris for that extra African vibe.

The types of accommodation available in Botswana are mainly tented camps. As this reduces the carbon footprint. These are usually small camps with only a few rooms. Consequently, availability is often an issue in the high seasons (from July to October). And it is important to book early to avoid disappointment. However, in towns like Kasane (the gateway to the Chobe National Park) and Maun (the gateway to the Okavango Delta), there are some larger lodges. But they also get busy in peak seasons.

Costs and logistics

A safari in Botswana is a significant investment, but prices vary widely depending on the type of safari and time of year.

  • Budget: Basic group camping safaris can start around $300-$450 USD per person per day.
  • Mid-Range: Mid-range safaris in permanent or mobile tented camps typically cost $650-$800 USD per person per day.
  • Luxury: High-end safaris can be upwards of $1,000 to $2,000 USD per person per day, with some exclusive lodges costing much more.

Most safaris in Botswana involve small charter flights between camps, which saves travel time but requires light packing. The luggage limit is generally around 33 lbs (15 kg) per person, and bags must be soft-sided. If you are flying into and out of Maun or Kasane, we can arrange for your luggage to be safely stored. But most people arrive at one and finish at another.

Botswana Accommodation – Where to stay on safari

Botswana accommodation is usually in the game reserves. Or, on the outskirts of them. There are many options available to suit all budgets. If you click on these links, you will find accommodation available at the bottom of each page. Visit Chobe National Park to see all the elephants and wildlife. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a birder’s paradise, and there is plenty of game that gathers at the infrequent waterholes. The Okavango Delta is a labyrinth of waterways where you can mokoro (a dugout canoe). For an escape from the hustle and bustle, Tuli Game Reserve is a great family-friendly option in Botswana. Or visit the Makgadikgadi Pans on a quad bike and sleep under the stars on the salt pans! Or in a beautiful camp where you can have a few more creature comforts.

The options are limitless, and we can package accommodations to make your Botswana safari seamless. See Botswana Honeymoon for lodges that offer honeymooners discounts. We have dedicated pages for Chobe honeymoon packages and the Okavango Delta honeymoon packages.
