The Belmond Grand Tour of Botswana is a luxurious four or six night safari in the Okavango and the Savute region in the Chobe National Park. Staying at two of Belmond’s five star safari lodges in Botswana. Together they make an incredible safari journey that will enchant the most seasoned traveler. As both lodges are in a unique ecosystem so the experience from one to the next is dramatically different.
The Belmond Grand Tour of Botswana Package is for the 2 lodges in Botswana. We also have an extension to include Cape Town. This is the Grand Tour of Southern Africa Package.
We can combine any other hotels/lodges to give you exactly what you want as stays between the lodges can be non-consecutive but must form part of the same itinerary.
Additional activities such as scenic helicopter trips over the Okavango and horse riding safaris can also be included.
This itinerary can be amended to suit your preferences with more of less time in any of the destinations. A stop on the Chobe Riverfront, Victoria Falls or Cape Town can also be included.
Beginning deep in the Okavango, at Eagle Island Lodge, where quintessential Okavango landscapes and water activities await, with incredible game viewing when flood levels recede. Your final lodge on this safari is Savute Elephant Lodge, set deep in the southern reaches of Chobe National Park, the Savute area is famous for explosive game viewing. Immense herds of elephant visit the area in dry season and the predator sightings are impressive.
This is the 6 night itinerary but you can also do 4 nights. You can do this itinerary in reverse too.
Day 1, 2 and 3 – Eagle Island Lodge
On arrival at Maun Airport, Botswana, a representative will meet you and assist with your flight to the Okavango. The view from the air offers a stunning introduction to the Delta. Upon landing, your guide will meet you for a 20-minute game drive to the lodge.
After settling in, your guide will discuss your interests and explain the lodge’s surroundings and activities. Mokoro trips (traditional dug-out canoes) and boating offer unique water safaris. Guided bushwalks reveal smaller wildlife and the rich plant life of this remarkable ecosystem.
Optional activities (at extra cost) include helicopter flights and horseback safaris for experienced riders. You can also visit Xaxaba village to see traditional Okavango life blending with modern ways.
Later that afternoon, enjoy your first activity—perhaps gliding through shallow waters in a mokoro or boating into the deeper channels. This is a slower, more peaceful safari, focused on the calm and beauty of the Delta. In the dry season, you will enjoy excellent game drives and walking safaris.
Over the next two days, enjoy full days of activities tailored to your interests and guided by your expert host.
Eagle Island Lodge
Eagle Island Lodge is a sustainably designed and built sanctuary that takes you magically close to the Delta’s rich wildlife. Drift through the watery landscape on a mokoro canoe, spotting hippos and kingfishers. Or fuel your adrenaline with a thrilling helicopter and horseback safari. This is where the incredible Okavango Delta floods each year. Attracting a breathtaking diversity of wildlife. It is both a water and land camp with water good water levels between June – September. It is on a private concession on Xaxaba island therefore you can enjoy night drives, off-roading and walking safaris.
Flooded with light by day, the air conditioned safari accommodation is indulgently cozy at night. Unwind in the soothing grey interior, punctuated by flashes of deep gold. Or stretch out on the oversized bed, framed by a stunning copper headboard. Best of all, each tented room boasts its own plunge pool and a private deck. Both are perfect for soaking up the scenery.

Day 4, 5 and 6 – Savute Elephant Lodge
This morning, enjoy one more activity or sleep in before leaving the Okavango for Savute Elephant Lodge. At the advised time, your guide will transfer you to the airstrip for a 30-minute light aircraft flight. As you fly, the lush Delta gives way to drier landscapes where animals gather at waterholes. On arrival, your guide will meet you for a 30-minute game drive to the lodge.
Activities here focus on morning and afternoon game drives. You can also take a day trip to see ancient San Bushman rock art—an unforgettable excursion that also serves as a game drive. Savute is known for its big game, with large herds of elephants and buffalo during the dry season. Predators are often seen here, and the lions are famous for hunting elephants and hippos.
On your first afternoon, head out on a game drive with sundowners before returning for dinner at sunset.
Over the next two days, discover Savute through morning and afternoon drives. During the heat of the day, relax at the lodge and watch the wildlife at the waterhole.
Savute Elephant Lodge
Savute Elephant Lodge is one of the most luxurious lodges in Botswana. Boasting an exemplary Eco-friendly design, luxurious spa, and viewing hide. It enjoys a prime location on the banks of the Savute channel. Not far from the Savute Marsh that is famous for the large Marsh pride of lion. Elephants are, not surprisingly, the found in large numbers. The majestic inhabitants are drawn to the mysterious Savute Channel, which flows and dries up seemingly at whim. With great views over the channel and a constant stream of animals arriving to quench their thirst, this is a fantastic spot. Game viewing can be enjoyed from the pool, the hide, the dining room and even your private deck.
Savute Elephant Lodge boasts 12 luxurious air conditioned tented rooms. Each raised on a wooden platform to allow a breathtaking view of elephants in their natural habitat. Stretch out on your four-poster bed, or unwind in your shaded outdoor lounge. Pad out onto your sun-soaked deck for a spot of wildlife viewing, cocktail in hand.

Day 7 – End of Safari
Today, depending on the time of your flight you may have a morning activity before your flight to Maun. The exact time of your flight will be fixed the day before and advised by your guide. Bidding farewell to the team you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your fight to Maun, a flight of about 30 minutes. There you will be met and assisted onto your onward flight.
