Lake Manyara National Park offers a true wilderness experience in diverse habitats. From its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Lake Manyara is most well known for its huge flocks of flamingos and its tree climbing lions. But; there’s much more that makes it well worth a visit. Not far from the Ngorongoro Crater on the shores of Lake Manyara, is a belt of precious wilderness reserve some 100 km long that provides sanctuary for an abundance of pink flamingos which feed in the shallows of the lake. As well as tree climbing lions, giant elephants, gentle giraffes, proud buffalo’s and herds of graceful antelope. The forest areas of Lake Manyara National Park are home to many species of exotic playful monkeys and colorful, rare birds.

Romantic tree house suites are graced by the sounds of the forest with elephants often walking past the decks. There are 9 x stilted tree house suites. Crafted from local timber and Makuti palm fronds; that weave a sophisticated blend of intimacy and romance. Offering privacy and exclusivity in the cool, leafy surroundings.
Each suite is a lofty tree house. With decks suspended above the forest floor and large windows that open up to the lush forest they welcome the sights and sounds of the African bush. Wood chip paths and natural branch railings blur the edges between the natural and the man made. While wooden interiors and thatched roofs invite the surrounding forest indoors.
Spacious bedrooms and sitting rooms float in a sea of green, opening up onto a leafy canopy. The classically elegant bedrooms are fitted with contemporary furnishings in neutral colors and textures, overhead fans, and billowing mosquito nets. A soak in the large, freestanding tub offers a panoramic view. There is also an outdoor shower behind a simple bamboo screen.

Children of all ages are welcome at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge. The lodge is also able to accommodate a limited number of triple rooms. It has 1 x family suite that sleeps a maximum of 2 x adults and 2 x children 16 years and under (3 x children on request).
The Family Suite is cradled in the boughs of Lake Manyara’s ancient trees. It holds two classically elegant en suite rooms; connected by a shared foyer. A generous deck suspends above the forest floor and large windows invite the lush forest inside. The main bathroom boasts a freestanding bath and an indoor shower. The second bathroom features an indoor shower.

The translucence of the lake, juxtaposed with the dramatic escarpment makes for breathtaking sunsets and sunrises in this special park. When the park closes, only &Beyond vehicles and guests are allowed to remain here. Experience your own private golden glow of sunset or watch the flamingos with every shade of pink. Make the effort to rise early to the sounds of the forest, to be on the lake for a cup of coffee. As the pinks and oranges start to filter through the night and the bird life awakens.

Safari Game Drives (Included in nightly rate)
The lodge is perfectly positioned to explore the park’s wealth of habitats. Situated in a dense forest between the lake shore and the steep Rift Valley escarpment. The nine rivers, five of which are permanent, support a variety of wildlife. And bird life with it’s extraordinary trees including baobabs.
Each morning and afternoon set off with your guide and tracker in an open 4×4 safari vehicle with a canvas canopy. Together you will explore the diverse habitats of the park. Stopping on the lake shore to admire the different bird species and look for pink flamingos. You will traverse a mosaic of acacia woodlands, grassy floodplains, and tall forests in search of wildlife. Including Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions and large family herds of elephants.
After an exhilarating game drive, guests stop for sundowners on the lake shore below the Great Rift Valley wall.
Birding
Keen birders will delight in the opportunity to bird watch in Lake Manyara. The variety of ecosystems brings a large diversity of bird life. There are approximately 400 species in this small park.

Night Game Drives
Add another dimension to your daily game drives and enter the world of Africa’s nocturnal predators on a thrilling night drive. Night drives at Lake Manyara National Park are particularly spectacular. With the moon reflecting off the lake. After an early dinner, leave the lodge at about 8 pm and explore the park for approximately 3hours. Your expert guide will take you through the park’s diverse habitats in search of nocturnal animals and sounds. A night drive gives you a completely different perspective of the lake and the Rift Valley Escarpment.
The wild animals in this park are in top-notch condition. This is due to the dependable water supply all year. There is an abundance of elusive animals that are rarely seen during the day. But that are incredibly active at night. Hopefully, you will be lucky enough to spot shy genets, lithe civet cats, and prickly porcupines. Possibly easier to see will be the massive hippos happily foraging under a leafy tree on the roadside. Fleeting leopards often wander around the park. Even though it is not a given that you will see one; there are regular sightings of them. The kings of the jungle, the golden lions; pride themselves on sleeping all day. So fortunately, you are sure to see them as they are most mobile at night.
Bicycle ride or walk through Mayoka village
Guests at &BEYOND Lake Manyara Tree Lodge can enjoy a scenic guided bike ride or walk through the Mayoka community. Drive to Mayoka to collect your bicycle and begin. Cycle through this bustling village and interact with the friendly people. Including the nomadic Mang’ati tribe, adorned with traditional animal skin cloaks, skirts, and colorful beads. A picturesque bike ride brings you to the lakeshore. Where you can admire bright pink flocks of flamingos. If the birds are close enough, put on some gumboots and walk out to observe and photograph them. The guided walk goes along the same route. All proceeds go directly to the Mayoka community.
Treetop Canopy Walk
Lose yourself among the treetops of Lake Manyara on a treetop canopy tour. Stroll through the ancient forests. Starting on a short boardwalk that gradually rises from ground level to the forest canopy. Glide over a series of suspension bridges, flanked with thick netting for safety. And stop to marvel at viewing decks that blend into the massive tree trunks. Enjoy an intimate glimpse of life in the treetops with your guide. Eye-to-eye with monkeys, birds, and butterflies. Spend an hour suspended up to 18 meters (59 feet) above the forest floor.
Boasting a magnificent bird’s eye view of the forest hopefully, you will be able to spot some gorgeous wildlife in the lush foliage. Massive grey elephants barrel their way through shrubs and trees. And proud buffalo brush the forest floor. You are never far from the infinite Blue Monkeys that play, cavort. And relish the opportunity to play catch, and tag. And jump maniacally on the suspension bridges. If given the chance, will go tandem with you on your canopy glide! Listen closely and you will hear a symphony of birds chattering and tweeting. Especially the trumpeting Silvery cheeked Hornbills that swoosh past.
Sleep out under the stars
This is beyond your average fly camping experience! Spend an evening under a blanket of a million stars. On an unforgettable sleep out adventure, at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge.
After your evening game drive, head to a secluded and exclusive sleep out spot within the Lake Manyara National Park. Here, luxuriously adorned beds, swathed in romantic netting. As well as a private campfire (and all the amenities you require to feel comfortable) await you.
Enjoy a scrumptious dinner and a restful evening spent serenaded by the sounds of the Tanzanian wilderness. In the morning, you will return to the lodge in time for your morning game drive.
Due to the nature of this experience; this adventure is for guests that are 16 years and older. It caters to a minimum of two, and a maximum of four guests. A guide will be your host for the evening and there will be guards on patrol throughout the night to ensure your safety.
Cultural tour of Mto Wa Mbu town
Bustling with a variety of cultures from around Tanzania; the little town of Mto Wa Mbu lies at the entrance to Lake Manyara National Park. A local agricultural hub. The town is famous for its crops of rice and the distinctive red bananas that Tanzania is known for. A half-day tour of the town in the company of a local guide gives travelers the opportunity to interact with local farmers. As well as artisans, craftsmen, and painters. A sampling of the local banana beer adds a unique taste of local flavor.

Best Time to Travel to Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara is an excellent year round destination. However; the best game viewing is from August to September and December to February. Temperatures are generally pleasant, with minimums of 15°C / 59°F and maximums of 40°C / 104°F. Lake Manyara has a warm to hot climate all year due to its proximity to the equator. Rain generally occurs in April and May, then again in November.
The Park has exceptional game viewing all year round including sightings of the resident prides of tree climbing lions. The best time to see large flocks of flamingos is between November and March as they are dependent on the rain patterns. From June to December, you will see abundant Manyara butterflies. While from November to March, you will see migrant birds.
Getting to Lake Manyara Tree Lodge
A number of airlines operate scheduled flights from Arusha Airport or Dar es Salaam to Lake Manyara Airstrip. From the airstrip, it is a scenic 3½ hour drive to the lodge through the national park; with game viewing en route.
