Serengeti Migration Camp

Serengeti Migration Camp

Lining the banks of the famous Grumeti river, home to pods of grunting and wallowing hippos, Serengeti Migration Camp perfectly encapsulates the luxury camp experience. It has become synonymous with low-impact high-action game viewing in a landscape that is untouched since the dawn of time. Serengeti Migration Camp is in central Northern Serengeti. This is a quieter, less visited part of the Serengeti. The area feels wonderfully private. Serengeti Migration Camp has easy access to the Mara River during the northern migration season.

Overlooking a kopje and sweeping plains across the river, the camp’s main areas are designed for the enjoyment of the expansive view of the colors of a spectacular Serengeti sunset.  The main ‘tent’ has a split-level lounge, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and viewing platforms that offer views across the river and the rugged landscape beyond. But it is the drama and proximity of the wild, which take the experience of this camp to an altogether higher level. A large swimming pool invites guests for a refreshing swim during the heat of the day.

The dining experience at Serengeti Migration Camp is on a separate deck overlooking the Ndasiata Hills and the Grumeti River. Dine under canvas or al-fresco under the brilliant African skies.

WiFi is available in the main lounge area.

Serengeti Migration Camp Accommodation

20 x luxurious elevated tents, each with spacious and richly furnished bedrooms, blend seamlessly into the environment. Serengeti Migration Camp Tents are designed with the guest’s comfort in mind. Each tent has an en suite shower room with a flushing toilet, shower, and twin vanity basin. The latter of which receives hot (solar-generated) and cold running water 24 hours a day.

They include luxuriant soft furnishings, a writing desk, and stationery set, and a room fan. The tents have a wooden floor, fixed bathroom walls, and fixed wooden doors but all combine with the all-enveloping canvas.

Each of the tents is surrounded by its own 360-degree verandah deck. Which in turn creates your very own private sanctuary to enjoy the constant game sightings and the ever-present sounds of the bush.

Serengeti Migration Camp tents have the feel of a stately hotel room, but with canvas walls to let the sounds of the African bush remind you of your truly wild location.

Best time to visit Serengeti Migration Camp

As the great migration is a key attraction for many visitors to East Africa, from April through June and again from late October through December is when guests can witness this spectacle first-hand. Bear in mind, this is a natural phenomenon so times may fluctuate slightly.

Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant’s gazelle.

The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates Tanzania’s greatest park. Golden-maned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers. Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River, while a high density of cheetahs prowls the southeastern plains. Almost uniquely, all three African jackal species occur here, alongside the spotted hyena and a host of more elusive small predators, ranging from the insectivorous aardwolf to the beautiful serval cat.

This area of the Serengeti offers fantastic game viewing year-round.
