Okavango Delta Honeymoon

The Okavango Delta is a popular and unique choice for a honeymoon due to its blend of adventure, luxury, and unparalleled natural beauty. Using our honeymoon offers, it becomes a much more beneficial time to tick off this bucket list destination.

Here’s a breakdown of why the Okavango Delta is a perfect romantic honeymoon:

1. Intimacy and Seclusion:

The lodges and camps are often small, intimate, and located in private concessions. Ensuring a sense of exclusivity and privacy.

Many lodges are accessible only by small aircraft. Adding to the feeling of being in a remote, crowd free wilderness.

You’ll find romantic touches like private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and starlit dinners on your own deck or in the bush.

2. Unique and Diverse Activities:

Mokoro Excursions:
Glide silently through the Delta’s clear waterways in a traditional dugout canoe, poled by an expert guide. It’s an incredibly serene and romantic way to see the smaller details of the ecosystem. From colorful birds to tiny frogs.

Game Drives and Walking Safaris:
In addition to water-based activities, you can embark on game drives to spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo). As well as other wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and various antelope. Walking safaris offer a chance to get closer to nature and learn about the smaller flora and fauna.

Helicopter Tours:
For a truly spectacular and romantic experience, you can take a scenic helicopter flight over the Delta. With some packages including a champagne stop on a secluded island.

Star Gazing:
With minimal light pollution, the night sky is a breathtaking spectacle. Many lodges offer “star beds” or sleep-out options where you can spend a night under the stars.

3. Luxurious and All-Inclusive Experience:

Honeymoon packages in the Okavango Delta are typically all-inclusive. Covering luxurious accommodations, gourmet meals, all local drinks, and a range of activities.

The service is known for being exceptional and personal. With many lodges catering specifically to couples on their honeymoon with special surprises.

4. A Safari with a Difference:

Unlike more traditional safari destinations, the Okavango Delta’s unique blend of land and water-based activities offers a more diverse and complete safari experience. You can see wildlife from a boat, a vehicle, and on foot. Plus of course, by helicopter and a mokoro!

The varying landscape and ecosystems—from lush wetlands to dry plains—mean you’ll encounter a wide variety of wildlife.

The Okavango Delta is a destination that promises a perfect blend of wild adventure and indulgent luxury. Making it an ideal setting for an unforgettable honeymoon.

The best time for a honeymoon in the Okavango Delta

The best time for a honeymoon in the Okavango Delta depends on your priorities. Each season offers a unique experience. However, the most popular and classic time to visit for a safari experience is during the dry season. This is from May to October.

Ultimately, all seasons have their merits for a romantic honeymoon. If you’re a couple whose priority is seeing the most wildlife possible and enjoying classic water-based activities, the dry season is your best bet. If you prefer lush scenery, incredible birdlife, and a more affordable trip, the Green Season is a fantastic choice. While choosing the Shoulder Season is definitely the most affordable, your honeymoon will still be very rewarding.

Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in each season to help you decide:

The Dry Season (May – October)

Although this is called the dry season, this is when the floodwaters usually reach the Okavango Delta. So, it’s great because there is almost no chance of rain but the Okavango Delta water levels are higher. This means you can usually do romantic mokoro excursions and boating. The animals will congregate on the islands. Making them easier to find.

Weather:
The weather is generally pleasant with clear blue skies. The days are warm, but the mornings and evenings can be cool or even cold, especially in June and July. By September and October, temperatures can get very hot.

Considerations: This is the high season, so it’s more expensive. You’ll need to book well in advance.

The Green Season (November – April)

The green season is when the rain arrives and the Okavango Delta water levels subside. It is the best time for bird watching as the migratory birds arrive. It is also when when many animals give birth, so you’ll see a lot of young wildlife.

Weather:
It’s hot and humid with regular afternoon thunderstorms. Please note, it is highly unlikely that it rains for long periods of time. And the afternoon thunderstorms clear the dust and air. So, it is actually a blessing. The rain can sometimes make some areas less accessible for game drives.

Considerations: There are fewer tourists, and many lodges offer lower rates. Making it a great option for a more affordable honeymoon.

Shoulder Seasons (April, May, and November)

These months offer a good compromise between the two main seasons. The landscapes are still green and beautiful. But the rains have subsided, and the weather is pleasant. You’ll also find a good balance of wildlife viewing and fewer crowds.
