Family Safaris

Children are welcome at &Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp.
Should parents wish to share a room with younger children (12 years or younger); the lodge has one triple room. Where an additional bed is set up in the parents’ room for children. Children under the age of 12 sharing with 1 or 2 adults are charged 50% of the adult rate.

Safari Game Drives

Your fully interpretive game drives at Xaranna are wonderfully remote and secluded; with only a few other &Beyond safari vehicles sharing this private concession. Afternoon drives continue after sunset. Because the chance of seeing those elusive species like leopards and serval that are active after dark is greater.

Seasonal Water Activities

Glide along the Delta’s reed lined network of channels and lagoons in a mokoro. Also called a mokoro which is a dugout canoe. Get within a breath of wildlife. Instead; you may opt for a different perspective of game viewing in a motorized boat. Dependent on the Delta water levels.

Guided Walking Safari

Experience the Okavango Delta on foot, while you observe and learn. As your guide expertly interprets the signs and sounds of the bush.

Helicopter Flights

Take to the air in a helicopter (at an additional charge). This is the best way to get a true feeling for the Okavango Delta’s vast open spaces. Keen photographers can choose to have the doors removed; thus giving unrestricted views of the spectacular panorama below.

Best time to visit Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp

Botswana has hot, wet summers from October to April. Summer temperatures range from 25°C to 40°C / 77°F to 104°F. Winters (from May to September) are dry and cool and nights can be chilly. Winter temperatures range between 5ºC to 33ºC / 42ºF to 91ºF.

The rainy season is from late December to late February, sometimes continuing into March. With rain generally in the form of afternoon thundershowers.

During summer and spring, hot days usher in thunderstorms over a dry Delta. While in winter the land dries and the Delta fills with water.

Therefore, the best time for a Okavango Delta safari is in the winter. Once the rains have filled up the channels. This is between July – October.

How to get to &Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp

Access is via a scheduled flight from Johannesburg or Cape Town to Maun. Or from Johannesburg to Kasane. Both followed by a light aircraft flight into the Okavango Delta and to the lodge’s airstrip. On arrival, transfer by a road and boat to camp.

There are also flights available from Windhoek and Victoria Falls.
