Kadizora Camp Activities
Kadizora Camp offers the perfect balance of adventure, culture and relaxation. A journey to the Okavango Delta – deep inside Africa’s pristine interior – is like no other. Encompassing vast wetlands and expansive drylands. Visitors traverse the Delta’s meandering waterways. Passing palm and papyrus-fringed islands, thick woodland, resplendent with lush vegetation. And teeming with rich wildlife. The largest intact inland delta in the world, the Okavango Delta is situated deep within the Kalahari Basin. Fed by the Okavango River, originating in the Angolan Highlands to the north and often referred to as the ‘jewel’ of the Kalahari.
Kadizora Camp offers open vehicle safaris and boating. Mokoro excursions provide a fabulous and traditional way to explore the meandering water channels. Experience a spectacular bird lovers’ paradise. Fishing is available in season. Smaller tiger fish, African pike, barbel (catfish) and a variety of different tilapia.

Game Drives
The primary activity of any safari is a game drive. Kadizora operates with a fleet of robust comfortable customized open-sided vehicles. Built to be effective in this unique terrain.
The best game viewing is at dawn and dusk. The first game vehicle leaves camp before the sun is up. The second drive heads out into the wilds in the late afternoon.
It’s surprising how fresh air and adrenalin can really work up an appetite. All of our morning game drives include a A “hotbox” on the vehicle containing hot and cold beverages, a breakfast sandwich and fruit, which you will enjoy during your “safari halt” on the morning drive.
Sundowners on your afternoon activity will include a scenic sunset and a tiffin of savoury nibbles with a Gin & Tonic or beverage of choice.
At Kadizora it is also possible to do night drives.
Boat Cruises
A highlight with many guests is a leisurely boat cruise down the channel. With the chance of seeing a herd of elephants feeding and swimming in the river channels. Not to mention, the hippos who pop up to the surface of the water. Crocs can be seen on the banks too.
Being on the water allows for fantastic birdlife sightings. By late August/September, the air is full of color as the carmine bee-eaters return for the summer. And the first migrants return, and storks begin nesting. Plus, many other birds such as the majestic fish eagles, kingfishers and African jacanas.
Skimming smoothly over the clear waters of the Okavango, stopping to drift whilst sipping on a sundowner is very tranquil and a must do when visiting.
Mokoro
When exploring Botswana’s Okavango Delta, the vehicle of choice is the mokoro. This is the local Setswana word for a traditional canoe. And is one of the most sublime ways to experience the Okavango Delta. This is an iconic “must-do” Okavango Delta activity. You will be guided by your specialist guide poler.
Glide atop glassy waters, splitting reeds and parting lily pads. Traveling just above the waterline affords a whole new vantage point. The pods of hippos wallowing in the channels and other game along the water’s edge.
The almost silent form of transport allows travelers to move through the waterways and get closer to wildlife than they would normally. Into shallow waters, where a boat cannot reach.
Bush Walks
A guided walking safari is a completely different experience to a vehicle safari. As it not only gives you the thrill of being on foot in a wild reserve with four of the big five. But is a chance to really immerse yourself into nature at ground level.
An experienced, armed guide will take you on a leisurely walk. Where time is spent observing the smaller details in the bush that one would normally miss on a game drive. Learn about tracking, discover our bird life, insects, trees and plants and gain an understanding of the Eco-system.
Bush walks are dependent on the weather and the terrain at the time of year.
Helicopter Flights
For a little extra during your stay, add a flip on a helicopter to add scenic aerial shots of the Delta to your collection. A helicopter flip has become more affordable because Kadizora Camp has a helicopter and pilot based permanently in the camp. This means you no longer have to pay for the “dead leg” for the helicopter to get to camp from Maun.
The helicopter experience is superior to a scenic flight on a fixed wing aircraft because the doors of the helicopter are removed for your flight. This means unhindered views of the scenic terrain below, great photographic opportunities and the ability to fly where you would like to within the time limit of your flight.
When can you do it? Any time of year.
Birding
The Okavango Delta is best known as a photographic safari destination and offers some of the best unspoiled vistas in Africa. With a variety of habitats and ever abundant water, the Okavango Delta provides the photographer with a wealth of photographic subjects, dramatic landscapes, herds of plain’s game and spectacular bird life.
Community Visits
There is the option to arrange a day trip to a traditional village. Visit the church, the clinic, local Primary school and meet family members of the camp staff.
Conservation & Community Projects.
Kadizora Camp is the only Lodge in this area that employs 95% of the staff from the local community. It is also the only lodge within the concession that is Botswana owned. They are passionate about responsible tourism partnering with conservation organizations. And actively drive community projects that makes a difference. Some of these are:

Dining at Kadizora Camp
The bar, lounge, reception and dining area form a horse-shoe shape around the sandy fire pit. You will find the freshly prepared food a treat at Kadizora Camp, with pre-dinner drinks under the stars. This camp truly represents the magic of a wild and remote Delta experience.
Best time to visit Kadizora Camp
The Okavango Delta is a year-round safari destination with a combination of permanent wetlands and abundant wildlife.
April – September
In the Okavango Delta winter occurs from April to September. Days are generally dry, sunny, clear and cool to warm whilst in the evening temperatures can drop sharply. During the day temperatures generally reach 25˚C and evening temperatures can be as low as 4˚C.
Virtually no rainfall occurs during the winter months.
September – April
In the Okavango Delta the summer starts with temperatures building in October and ends in March with the onset of the dry season. In October before the rains, days are hot and with dry temperatures soaring up to 40˚C or more. Cloud cover, coinciding with the arrival of the first rains towards the end of November or in early December, reduces the temperature considerably. Albeit only for a short period.
During the rainy season, which usually lasts until the end of February, the days are hot and sunny in the mornings with thunderstorms. These are usually in short, torrential downpours during the late afternoon. Temperatures during the day can rise to 38˚C and nighttime temperatures can drop to around 20˚C.
Rainfall is erratic, unpredictable and highly regional. Heavy downpours may occur in one area while 10 or 15 kilometers away there is no rain at all. Showers are often followed by sunshine, so a great amount of the rainfall does not penetrate the ground, as it is lost to evaporation and transpiration.
Getting to Kadizora Camp
The camp is only accessible by air. The flight time from Maun to Kadizora Camp is approximately 35 minutes. As you fly over the Delta to Kadizora Camp, you will experience breathtaking scenery. From Kasane the flight time is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. And from other Delta camps it will be around 30 minutes.
