Owing to its remote delta location, Xugana Island Lodge is a year round water paradise. Offering guests the chance to experience the beauty of the Okavango Delta with its myriad of deep waterways, open floodplains, and diverse wildlife inhabitants. Xugana Lagoon is widely recognized as one of the most spectacular permanent water sites in the Okavango Delta. It is in the Shinde concession. The Okavango Delta is Africa’s largest and most awe inspiring oasis.
Xugana Island Lodge takes full advantage of this magnificent site. Multi-level decks provide abundant views and perspectives of the Xugana Lagoon. You see it from the swimming pool and the bar. From daybeds shaded by towering mahoganies, and the covered or open-air dining areas. Communal dining is part of the daily routine, where stories and laughter grow. For special occasions or for those who prefer it, private dining can be arranged on request.
Bringing you even closer is the over water fire deck. This stretches out like a hand, touching the surface of the lagoon. At night the fire burns low and, like the sparks rising from crackling wood, the stars scatter overhead.

Botswana Family Safaris
Children aged 6 and over are welcome at Xugana Island Lodge. However, kids under the age of 16 years must share with a parent at all times.
Safaris create a lifelong impression on children of any age. The incredible guides adore kids and know exactly how to bring a safari alive for young minds. Stopping to look at lion footprints. Or standing next to a huge elephant bone. The guides know how to keep the kids tuned in. Peering through binoculars at a weaver bird carefully repairing a nest. Or watching huge crocs slip silently into the water as you cruise by. These are experiences that will stay with children forever.

About Xugana Island
Water from the highlands of Angola runs for over a thousand kilometers in search of the sea. It never finds it. Instead, the water spills over the Kalahari sands in Botswana and into the Okavango Delta. Here, the desert drinks and life thrives.
The land becomes a maze of islands, and water channels. Elephants come in their hundreds. Buffalo, too. Antelope scatter through the shallows like quicksilver, and lions follow the paths they make, on the hunt. A fish eagle cries, sharp and high. Storks march through the water on legs as long as reeds.
In the heart of this ecological wonder, water finds a place to rest in the Xugana Lagoon. This is widely regarded as the most beautiful of all the permanent water sites in the Okavango Delta. And Xugana Island Lodge is your stunning springboard to experience it.
Xugana Island Lodge Activities
Xugana Island Lodge is in a private concession offering a range of activities giving you the chance to experience a true Okavango Delta safari. All activities are conducted by experienced professional guides.
Mokoro & Boating Safaris
Explore the crystal clear waterways by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat for the chance to enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant, and reptile species found in the area. On mokoro’s, you’ll experience the shallower channels and floodplains of the Okavango Delta. Guided excursions through the deeper channels and lagoons of the Okavango Delta are in hard bottom aluminum boats. The boats have comfortable seats, a foldaway canvas roof, and life jackets.
Guided Bush Walks
Bush walks on the surrounding islands offer the opportunity to track the larger species that inhabit the water wilderness. Guided walks are conducted in small groups with two experienced guides. Giving you the chance to experience nature up close and personal.
Fishing
Catch and release fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an added activity at the lodge (season dependent). All fishing equipment is available at the lodge.
Bird Watching
Birding is spectacular, especially during the summer months (from September to February) when the migrant birds come to breed. Experienced guides will identify them all for you.
Helicopter Flights (Surcharges apply)
Scenic helicopter flights over the Okavango Delta are available at an additional charge.

Day 1 – 4
The Savute region of the Chobe National Park is one of Botswana’s best game viewing destinations. Offering exceptional year round game viewing. In the green season, massive herds of zebra migrate through the Savute Marsh along with other large groups of mammals in search of the rich grasses. This open marsh area makes for easier predator sightings along with an increase in the prey available. The Northern and Marsh lion prides that dominate the region remain; and offer excellent predator encounters.
As the rains bring fresh growth and water into the Savute Marsh, marvel at the amazing birdlife. Large flocks of the vibrant Carmine bee-eaters migrate through the area to pick up insects. They are known to follow vehicles to prey on insects as they flick up providing beautiful photograph opportunities.
Day 5 – 7
Some camps and lodges in the Okavango Delta change dramatically throughout the year with green season often offering a vastly contrasting experience due to the floodwaters having receded. Xugana Island Lodge offers water based activities year round on a private concession in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The best location from which to explore the deep water, lagoons, and channels. Guided bush walks on the surrounding islands offer a unique perspective of the delta. As well as an opportunity to witness the abundant wildlife on foot. With the lower floodwaters of the green season, the camp can access the mainland by vehicle to offer seasonal game drives. This allows for excellent game viewing on day and night drives. The perfect green season Okavango Delta camp with every activity available!
