Chobe Game Lodge is a pioneering lodge on the banks of the game rich Chobe River. Established in 1973, Chobe Game Lodge is one of the most famous lodges in Botswana. As the oldest 5 star Lodge in Botswana, the Lodge occupies an enviable position right inside Chobe National Park. It is the only permanent lodge located within the renowned Chobe National Park. This privileged location allows guests to be the first to enter the park every morning and the last to leave.
The main areas are relaxed and comfortably laid out. With two complimentary bars and numerous spots to dine plus a large pool. Naturally, the focus of the lodge lies with the majestic Chobe River. There is a 250 meter boardwalk along the Chobe River for you to take a stroll along at any time. Bringing you up close to where the action is. Find a spot along the platform and settle in to peacefully observe the wildlife without even getting into a car or boat. Connect to the abundant nature around you from this boardwalk.
Modern conference facilities are available and there is complimentary WiFi internet throughout the property.

What sets Chobe Game Lodge apart from all the other lodges in the area?
Chobe Game Lodge takes its ongoing commitment to social and environmental responsibility very seriously. This five star Lodge has full Eco-grading by the Botswana Tourism Board. One of its social key focuses is gender equality. And creating better employment opportunities for women in the Botswana tourism industry. More than 65% of all the staff members at Chobe Game Lodge are women. This includes the all-female team of professionally qualified guides. In addition, a youth development program educates and trains youngsters from the local community. Helping them improve their skills and further their careers in the tourism industry.

Chobe Game Lodge Activities
From the boardwalk to the boats, the natural focus of Chobe Game Lodge centers around the river. Wildlife travels unbelievable distances across the parched land to get to the waters of the Chobe.
Boat Safaris
No Chobe safari is complete without experiencing the beauty of the Chobe River and its incredible wildlife by boat. ‘Skimmer boats’ can accommodate up to 12 guests on comfortable adjustable deck chairs. The boats are designed specifically for relaxation and viewing. Allowing you to take in the river’s stunning vistas. The flexible seating and level deck make the boats a photographer’s dream. There is ample space for equipment and the freedom to shoot unobstructed from any vantage point.
The game viewing on a river safari in Chobe is unsurpassed anywhere in Botswana. Elephants line the water’s edge and hippos congregate in lagoons. Hundreds of antelope and giraffes make their way to the water. And sightings of predators along the river banks are common.
Chobe Game Lodge pioneered the use of electric boats when they launched the first electric powered boat (and game vehicle) in 2014. These days there are four electric boats, of which three are fully solar creating an ecologically sensitive safari. But it also means quiet safaris. This makes for a far more enjoyable experience in the wilderness for guests.
Game Drives
Join Chobe’s all female, incredibly experienced guides who know every inch of the Chobe River route along which their drives run. They can pick up on the signs of the bush such as animal behavior, tracks, scents, and noises. Safari drives along the banks of the Chobe River are one of the most incredible game viewing experiences in Africa.
Chobe Game Lodge prides itself on leading the way with electric powered game viewing. The silence of electric vehicles not only transforms the experience, but it reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Thereby contributing to the environment and sustainability of safaris. The clever design of the 4 x 4s gives guests a wide, uninterrupted view from which to spot slinking leopards and get the best photos possible.
Depending on the season, afternoon drives depart in the late afternoon and return at the park closure time after sunset. This allows you to watch the wildlife right until the last light.
Vast numbers of wildlife are drawn to the cool waters of the river from the parched surrounding bush. Guests can expect to see large numbers of elephants for which the area is famous. As well as huge herds of buffalo, elegant impalas, and majestic giraffes. If you’re lucky you may see the slightly rarer puku, which are endemic to wetlands. And birds are too numerous to mention. Predators are plentiful in the northern region of the Chobe National Park. With excellent sightings of lions, wild dogs, and leopards.
Birding Safari
Birding is spectacular with Schalow’s turaco, barred owlet, and white-browed coucal resident in the lodge gardens. As well as rosy-throated longclaw, western-banded snake eagle, and hooded vulture among a few of the 450 species of the Chobe region.
Spa Treatments
There are few things more luxurious than a spa after a hot day exploring the wilds of Chobe. The stylish spa offers serene surroundings to treat yourself at the hands of highly trained and personable therapists. The spa’s signature treatments use indigenous ingredients. Such as marula oil, African shea butter, and rooibos tea. All with nourishing and healing properties.
Gym & Fitness

The best time to visit Chobe Game Lodge
Winter (April to September)
Daytime temperatures generally reach 25 °C, and may fall as low as 2 °C at night. Virtually no rain falls during the winter months. Buffalos begin to gather into large herds and visit the rivers more often as the seasonal pans begin to dry up. Breeding herds of elephants increase in density daily as they visit the permanent waters. June is an exciting month. The African Wild Dogs begin to search for dens, which makes them easier to find for the next three or four months as they operate from their dens. Exciting hunts and playful puppies. What more could you wish for?
Summer (October to March)
The summer or rainy season begins in October and ends in March. In October the weeks preceding the coming of the rains tend to be the hottest. Temperatures soar up to 40 °C or more! Cloud cover and the arrival of the first rains towards the end of November or early December, cool things down considerably. It is hot but never will you experience such great game viewing. It is well worth the sweat. This is the time of year when the herbivores are at their weakest through a lack of food. And the Lions are at their strongest. The predators seek out the vulnerable young and kill them many times a day to eat their fill. It is a time of action, great visibility, and color.
Chobe Game Lodge Location and Access
Upon arrival at Kasane Airport, guests are met by a Chobe Game Lodge representative and transferred by road to the lodge. The portion from Kasane Airport to Sedudu Gate (entrance to Chobe National Park) is on a tarred road. The remainder of the transfer is inside the Chobe National Park on a sand road suitable for 4WD vehicles only. The total transfer time from Kasane Airport to Chobe Game Lodge is approximately 45 minutes.
Chobe Game Lodge is approximately 90 minutes by road from Victoria Falls and Livingstone airports.
