Monachira Camp is on the Monachira channel in a private concession of Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta. Elevated wooden decks provide sweeping views of the floodplains teeming with wildlife. Guests can enjoy thrilling game drives and nature walks. As well as a variety of water based activities to explore the myriad of islands surrounding the camp.
In between, counting the passing clouds while floating in a pool or resting on a sun bed is nothing short of sublime. Or, let a qualified therapist give you a relaxing facial or a massage in the comfort of your room.

Monachira Camp Activities
There is always something to discover in Monachira Camp’s unique wetlands environment. From thrilling game drives to tranquil mokoro and boating safaris. As well as immersive nature walks. Enjoy spectacular wildlife sightings and exceptional bird watching opportunities, all under the care of highly trained guides. A chance to see elephants, lions, leopards, and a wide variety of Okavango species on the islands and floodplains. Also, a chance to see the elusive Pels Fishing Owl and rare sitatunga, a semi aquatic swamp antelope.
Boating Safaris
Cruise through the calm waterways of the Okavango Delta, exploring the most remote, untamed sections of their tributaries. Boating in the Okavango Delta is seasonal, and usually available between May and August when the water levels are higher. Observe the iconic behavior of wildlife as they swim, drink, and bask along the banks of the tributaries. All from the safety of a boat.
Mokoro Safaris*
As the Okavango Delta floods and the water levels rise, safaris take to the waters in a modern version of mokoro. Inspired by native locals who used traditional wooden mokoros as a form of transport. This dugout canoe is an exceptionally relaxing way to explore the reed-lined waterways. Discover different creatures you wouldn’t typically see from a vehicle or on foot.
*Please note water levels may affect the availability of Mokoro Safaris.
Bird watching
Bird lovers are spoilt for choice. The region’s wealth of varied habitats, including watering holes, forests, flood plains, mud pans, and wetlands, attract a vast range of resident and migratory species.
The summer months see the African skies heavy with flocks of returning migratory birds. The waters and open floodplains of the Okavango Delta make it Botswana’s prime birding destination with over 500 recorded species.
The camp is on the edge of the Monachira channel not far from the famous Gudigwa heronries. Offering great viewing of this amazing nesting ground of thousands of herons, egrets, and storks.
Game Drives
The beauty of a game drive is that you can cover vast areas of ground to find the animals you want to see. From the safety and comfort of a customized open vehicle.
All rangers agree – no two drives are ever the same. Each outing is ripe with potential. Sometimes it will be a pack of African wild dogs trotting on the hunt. At other times, it may be a lioness drinking at a waterhole with her cubs. It’s nature’s version of the lotto.
