Children aged 6 and over are welcome at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp (6-15 years pay the child rate). Children aged 15 and younger are required to share a suite with an adult.

Mokoro Excursions
Embark on an extraordinary adventure aboard a traditional dugout canoe or ‘mokoro’. Guided by a highly skilled local expert. A champagne stop is possible on any scenic flight from any Sanctuary Retreats camp. The pilot finds a deserted palm island halfway through the flight. An incredible moment mid flight that offers a special touch. Once on the ground, champagne is popped for you to enjoy. While further information is given about the delta from your engaging pilot.

How to get to Sanctuary Chief’s Camp
Sanctuary Chief’s Camp has its own licensed private airstrip which is approximately two kilometers from the camp. The transfer from the airstrip to the camp takes approximately 40 minutes.

Maun (25 minutes)
Kasane (1 hour 30 minutes)
Sanctuary Stanley’s or Baines’ Camp (15 minutes).
Helicopter transfers are private and direct. With a guaranteed window seat for potential wildlife sightings throughout. Guests are provided with headsets for constant communications with the very knowledgeable pilots. To make sure that they have a truly guided experience. This experience can accommodates all group sizes, including couples, families, friends and larger groups traveling together.
When to Visit Sanctuary Chief’s Camp
The Okavango Delta boasts a unique and ever-changing climate, offering diverse highlights for visitors in each season. The region experiences distinct wet and dry seasons. Green season usually lasts from late November until early March / April. Featuring hot sunny days averaging 20°C to 38°C. With occasional afternoon thundershowers which cool the surrounding area. Dry season runs from late May to early October, during which time the plains surrounding the camp are flooded. In June to August, winter temperatures can plummet as low as 0°C at night! With daily highs of around 27°C.
The rains in Botswana come between December and April.
May to October (Dry Season / Flood Season)
Dry Season brings mild temperatures and clear skies. The weather is pleasant for outdoor activities, and wildlife congregates around the waterways. Game drives and mokoro excursions reveal an abundance of wildlife. Including elephants, lions, giraffes, and various bird species. Throughout these months, the Okavango Delta is transformed into a lush and vibrant ecosystem. The delta swells with floodwaters from Angola. Creating a breathtaking landscape teeming with life.
November to April (Wet Season / Green Season)
The delta experiences rainfall often coming in short showers in the afternoon. The landscape is lush and green. Attracting migratory birds. This means it is the best time for bird watching enthusiasts to witness a plethora of species.
