Elephant Pan (formerly Hyena Pan) is in the Khwai Private Reserve. This borders Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai River, and Chobe National Park. It is in one of Botswana’s best game viewing areas in the larger Okavango Delta. It’s also something of a hidden gem and visitor access is restricted to a small handful of guests at Natural Selection’s camps.
Elephant Pan itself overlooks a natural water pan that comes alive with wildlife. Hippos splash below your private deck and elephants are never far from the pool. Making for exhilarating siesta swims! Sofas and armchairs are all perfectly positioned for the best views across the landscape. Not far from camp is a sunken photography hide. Offering a rather different perspective of the surroundings.
There is a spacious dining deck, and several seating areas with large comfy sofas. A sun deck, an open air boma with a campfire, and a pool deck with a small ‘splash pool’. With its lit waterhole, it allows game viewing from the comfort of the camp, 24/7.

Activities

Year Round Activities:
Morning and afternoon game drives plus spotlit night drives.
An underground hide offers spectacular photographic opportunities.
Sleep out under the stars at Skybeds on elevated platforms in the middle of Big 5 territory! Open from 1st April until 31st October.
Best time to visit
Elephant Pan is open year round. There is a constant supply of water in the lagoon and the game viewing is excellent.
The dry season is from April – October. While the green season is from November – March.
In Botswana, winter brings a scorching desert sun and the seasonal waterholes evaporate. While smaller ones dry up completely. At Elephant Pan, the water remains. And animals flock to the last droplets of water. There’s drama aplenty between predators and the unlucky prey. June, July, and August are traditionally the best times for game viewing in Botswana. But don’t rule out September and October either. And regardless of when you go; we’d recommend at least three nights, to discover everything you need to. And have one night at Skybeds.
How to get to Elephant Pan
There are direct flights to Maun from Cape Town and Johannesburg. On arrival in Maun, you will switch to a light aircraft to fly to the airstrip in the Khwai Reserve.
Road transfers from Maun and self-drive options are also available. Please contact us for details.
