Sediba Sa Rona sits beneath a canopy of leadwood and fig trees, overlooking the Khwai River. Bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta. This is where Belmond’s Khwai River Lodge was. With its unbeatable location underscored by a visionary rebuild, the lodge is destined to be extremely popular with safari travelers.

A popular spot for gathering around the fire to begin and end the day, as well as for stargazing.
Sediba Sa Rona’s spa is a haven for relaxation with an array of professional wellness treatments available. The curio shop is a treasure trove for beautifully crafted keepsakes and gifts. Many items, from jewellery to decor, are handcrafted and support their mission of Empowering Botswana Through Tourism by giving back to local artisans.
With a focus on detail, a love for meaningful luxuries, sustainable practices, and an exceptional team, Sediba Sa Rona stands out as a true haven. Birding is spectacular, especially during spring and summer when the migrants breed.
Avid birders can book a Specialist Guide and/or the Best of Botswana’s Birding Epic Experience itinerary.

Game drives depart twice daily in the morning and afternoon. Explore the many different ecosystems that the Khwai Concession has to offer. With the occasional option of walks from the vehicle, depending on the surrounding conditions.
Optional day trips into Moremi Game Reserve are available on request (strictly no night drives in Moremi Game Reserve). Night drives in the Khwai Concession can be requested and depart after dinner.
Mokoro Excursions
Explore the Khwai River’s shallower channels and floodplains by mokoro (a traditional dugout canoe). Expertly polled by the incredible Desert & Delta Safaris guides. This is a stunning way to slow down and absorb nature’s marvelous lesser known inhabitants, which may surprise as big highlights. From reed frogs to water lilies and the mysterious sitatunga antelope. Dependent on seasonal water levels.

For a perspective of Khwai and its stunning surroundings from above, embark on a scenic helicopter flight.
Hover over lacelike canopies, meandering waterways, and ‘larger than life’ game such as elephants, buffalo, and hippos. There are multiple areas to enjoy a drink, from the well stocked bar to comfortable indoor lounges and outdoor viewing areas.
Sediba Sa Rona Legacy & Empowerment
Sediba Sa Rona is more than a destination. It’s a beacon of inspiration and upliftment. The lodge represents Desert and Delta’s commitment to Botswana citizen involvement in tourism. As well as sustainable development as they, in partnership with Savanna Expeditions, revive and honor the legacy of one of Botswana’s first exclusive photographic safari lodges, Khwai River Lodge. The result is a lodge that symbolizes the future of tourism. One where people, the planet and purpose are prioritized.
Perhaps a less obvious and somewhat less visible aspect is that the design for the lodge facilitates 100% ‘off the grid’ operation. Made possible by a newly installed solar farm with battery and inverter systems. Plus a comprehensive water treatment plant, and the repurposed steel water tower in the nearby staff village. Together, these systems supply clean energy and fresh water to both the lodge and all staff residences.
When to visit Sediba Sa Rona
The Khwai Concession is a vital ecological hub and an extraordinary wildlife corridor where every season unveils something new. It offers exceptional wildlife encounters year round, although the Dry Season (May to October) is widely considered the prime time to visit.
June – August:
This is the peak of the Okavango flood. Despite the lack of rain, the Khwai River swells with crystal clear water from the highlands. Creating a lush oasis that attracts massive herds of elephants and buffalo. This is also the best time for traditional Mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions.
September – October:
These are the best months for predator action. As the bush thins out and inland water disappears, lions, leopards, and wild dogs congregate along the riverbanks for easy sightings.
November – April:
Known as the “Green Season,” this period is a photographer’s dream. This is due to dramatic afternoon thunderstorms, vibrant emerald landscapes, and an influx of migratory birds. It is also the “lambing season,” where many species give birth to their young.
